What's up gang, hope everybody had a good week. I'm on track to drop in the 340 next week. Ive pulled and installed engines and transmissions plenty in the past but never dropped an engine with the trans mounted to it. Lifting height won't be an issue since ive got a forklift. Im thinking one guy under the car to manage the trans angle/ floor Jack and have the tranny crossmember hanging from one bolt ready to swing into place. I'd like to hear y'alls experience with this approach. Found a Chrysler Dark Argent color I liked and shot the bell housing and inspection covers. 50 year old grease required scraping, wire wheeling, pressure washing, degreaser, hot water, torching and solvent scrubbing. I enjoyed every minute. Trans cross member had bolt holes worn damn near through so fixed them. Glad this wasn't my daily driver!

I do the engine first, then the transmission -unless- they can be installed from underneath the way the factory did it.

Regardless of that though, with one guy on a forklift & one person underneath the car the person underneath is not in a safe position, especially if something goes wrong.

Done lots of them as a unit by myself, but always used an engine crane. Sounds like you have a reasonably good plan, I would not have someone under the car while lowering the assembly in, be more useful up top guiding it into place, then head under to button things up. Remember your overall length is gonna be 5 feet give or take.

Got it. Thank you

As previously stated, don't have anyone under the car. Get the front end as high as possible. Then drop that 340 in it's new home! 65'

It helps to have a low dolly under car to catch the end of trans. This will make it slide easy & protect shaft and seal. As said before have front end of car high. I always do mine as assembly of both.

Got it. Ive got a hoist and was assuming it wouldn't lift high enough with the trans hanging down. I'll check out hoist first.
Thanks

Here's a pic of how great the leveler works. From here, adjusting the leveler will point the transmission down to about 45 degrees. Then it's slowly back and forth... in a little, down a little, in a little, down a little. I've heard of raising the front end to help, but I haven't tried that yet.

Ready Freddy. Hoping the leveller gives enough tilt when and where I need it. Ram on the hoist took a dump so going with fork lift.

Loadleveler was one of my best investments. Put engine and trans in by myself without forcing anything easy as could be. The trans was pretty much lined up and in place before I had to get under the car. Just lifted up the trans mount and bolted it in. Just take your time and have a couple beers along the way. Being able adjust the angle as you go is so sweet. And yeah, I got rid of the crank handle and just used a ratchet and socket on mine. Good luck!
