Help with 73 Duster stalls when put in gear

Why is my timing dancing all over at an idle
Hah! finally , I know the answer to something!
could be one of several reasons.
Hang on I'm eating with one hand and typing with the other; multi-tasking,lol......
1) the timing chain is sloppy loose
2) you got crappy hi-tension plug-wires running parallel and too close causing induction firing, especially between 5 and 7..
3) The weights in the D are not staying parked
4) the idle speed is erratic, because of carburetion issues, and the weak flyweight springs are following
5) if you have a stock type Mopar ECU and magnetic pick-up, then the Polarity is reversed

Number 4 is a ringer; you can't know if the idle speed is fluctuating because the flyweights are doing the herky-jerky and causing it or,if the chain is dancing, or if the fuel-air ratio is screwing around. So you gotta work your way down the list.
If the first four are proved to not be the reason, that just leaves #5.....
Lets talk about this one. but first
Do you even have this type of ignition?
