904 doesn’t start in 1st?

Some of the early Ford C4 variants had two drive positions. One that was regular drive and the other that started out in 2nd. Daddy had a 65 Falcon with that feature. The marketing name for that transmission was "Cruise O Matic" and in the owner's manual it talked about how starting in second was good for snowy and icy conditions.

Having told you all that nonsense, I guess it's reasonably possibly Ford was not the only maker that tried that.

The much hated skud missile (low flying, poorly guided missle) AKA 78 Ford LTD II, would lock in second if you selected "D2." It was much appreciated by me a couple of winters. I was fairly broke, then, and being able to kill some torque on an icy intersection got me goin' more than once. My 04 Sierra also starts in 2 if that is selected, but there's been times that I've had it in "2" and tromped on it, it will kick into 1. Weird, that. It does not have "posi"
