When you pay us a visit please do come looking for me...not to hard to find....fat guy, lot of camera gear piled in a green cart...bright shirt on...

It would be nice to update this thread when planning to be there. I might show up some time.
One day I'll have a running car. Hopefully before I'm too old to drive it.

I have been holding off posting this any place as it was the last image I took at SCR last year...was very fearful that it was going to be the last one ever....if I remember correctly it was a Nostalgia Nitro Funny Car drivers final licensing pass....this was the final image in the series of shots I took of his pass.

You would not happen to be the guy with the Orange Fastback Cuda, would you? There is a racer who is from MT that visits SCR every now & then. Last time he was there he was having some chassis problems by the look of it. Normally he left wheels up and dead straight. Last time...well..I felt like I had a target on me. I was shooting form the left lane...he came directly at me...twice. I went to the right lane...he came at me another time. I took my bright shirt off....his next pass he did not come at me....:rofl::rofl:.

I thank all of you who did write to the commissioners. Now I have to get my BB into the 73 scamp that went on the shelf when they said it was not going to be open. I like the idea of posting in this thread when anyone is going to the track. It would be good to meet in person.

Thanks. If I’m going I’ll try to connect with you.

Get to it Sir...

I was just looking at their website and the wikipedia info on it. Looks like a really nice facility.
It is a nice track. Has a bit of a storied past, so to speak...There is all sorts of rumors circulating about it's future beyond this season. But rumors are what they are. Several sources have said that a local businessman was looking into purchasing the property from Spokane County but due to the track falling under the jurisdiction of the Parks and Rec department it can not be sold outright....at least not without a lot of things falling into place. I spent some time at the motocross track that is next to the dragstrip. There is also a Kart track and a small flat track style track out there. It is all County owned.

I sold some images to a woman who was involved in the track pretty much since day 1. She told me that Orville Moe, Google him, he seems like an interesting individual, that his original intentions were to run the facility as a race track until he put enough $$ together to turn the property into a hotel/casino....which is ironically right next to it. Going to be an interesting season with all the housing that is going up very close to the track. From what I was told all of the housing is on Reservation land, so if they call the Police/County about the noise it will more or less fall on deaf ears...no pun intended. Least that is what the claim is....guess time will tell.

Orville Moe, .

I'm old enough to remember the original old strip up near Deer Park. I wasn't out there that much, as I was young, graduated in 66, and left for the Navy in spring of 68. So I was "gone."

Orville Moe has a REAL sordid history. I don't know if he was just a poor businessman part of the time, or what. He always seemed to get himself on a shoestring. Towards the end of his "rein" he lost affiliation with the track you know of. I forget the history? It went from NHRA (EDIT I guess it was ADRA not NHRA) to AHRA and ??? I don't know what. I can vaguely remember sometime in the 90's?? we went out there and the "crew" spent more time trying to get the starting line lights to work than they did racing. They actually had a couple of guys out there, one with a garbage can lid for a "tire" and another with a piece of cardboard, "test tripping" the starting lights.

To hear some of his family tell it, the whole thing was a conspiracy to take over the track and run him out of business.

I just found out yesterday that we have our dirt oval track back again. There were rumors all last year about it's upcoming changes of operation. It was sold by the founding family and operators in 2018 to an aspiring entertainment magnate. He had grand designs of Concerts and big dollar events. Apparently after working on that vision all last year and only booking 4 open wheel shows for the entire year he decided to let the classes familiar to this part of the state have another go at it. Modifieds, Pro Stocks, Hobby Stocks, Dwarf Cars and maybe even Go karts. It's not every weekend like it's been for 48 years, but it beats 4 nights for the entire year. He did manage to procure the World of Outlaws Sprints in March when they make the western swing. Last year he did try the concert route on a limited basis. The neighbors were unimpressed and let the local law enforcement agencies and county supervisors know in a loud and ambitious manner . "We built next to a race track, not a 150 db concert venue!"."Do something about it! Now!" Maybe they did. To complicate his issues the property is a Federally protected wet land and no new construction can take place on the property. Track was built before there were protected wet lands. One more year and then it's up in the air again. I'll take it :D

lol definitely not me, im the more-door 66 dart from Missoula.

Were you with the guy with the Fox body that has a turbo...and managed to inhale a plug off of the harness??

Yup, that's my close friend Austin. Him, Marcus (copper 280z) and myself have been going for years now.

Austin learned real quick the importance of turbo guards. lol

I know I have some pictures of you. Do you remember the dates you were at SCR?

Weather permitting Spokane County Raceway will be having a T&T tonight followed by Summit #1 on Saturday and Summit #2 on Sunday. Going to be way out of my comfort zone with the camera gear...covid regulations and all that. Have to shoot from a spot that makes things a bit more challenging....but it is what it is....at least we are FINALLY racing....
