Mopar performance 360/380 hp crate motor

-
Those were really good motors. Why not leave it as is. Is it that you want more horse/torque? If that's the case, then why not sell that and build what you want.
I’ll run this first and see how it goes thanks

Can you still get the 360 380 hp short block ? And how much is the complete engine ? Always liked these !

Best pass with yours ?
Motor is still in the blue crate .come the spring it’s going in a 71 dart

IIRC those 380HP motors were a very honest 380, usually a little more and the torque curve was flat 'like a table top'. Good down low and kept it to the top.

There been a couple of create engines Dyno, they all hit at least 400 hp, and even the 300 hp one did 320hp with stock long block and dual plane and headers.

273 nailed that one down good. These engines were slightly underrated so no one can *****. You paid for a 360/380 but got a 360/400+. Is there a reason to cry?

They were so good I had a friend pay 2500 bucks at a swap meet for one 5 years ago! and to this day I feal that was a screaming deal are they even still available ?

No. Out of production for several years. Other than one hidden away in some warehouse somewhere, you won't find any factory-fresh ones.

Find a good running 5.9 magnum and add cam intake and headers and you have one.

Still got a LA MP 360 short block in blue crate. Probably been 16 yrs now
91 360 roller block.

Very limited experience with crate motors but I’ll share one story. A friends boss bought one, 360-380hp and a /6 duster to put it in. Gutted the car, installed 6 point bar, Dana 60 with 4.88s, worked 904 rmvb, and some 28” slicks. Think he ran an 850 Holley on it. Drove it to the track, ran 11.90s and drove it home. At the time (1999-2000) I had a w2 360 in my dart and he out ran me. I kept thinking what did I do wrong. I do think his car weighed 400-500 pounds less than my car, or at least that’s what I choose to believe. Seems they made good power for what they were.

It’s the little things that probably got you. Not the engine by itself.

Agreed, this is the closest cams I can think off to copy-ish the 360/380 crate engine. Ask comp to move the 110 to a 108, add the M1 or closest equivalent and your in there.

Rumble, I totally agree. My car was on street tires, through mufflers, and a 9:1 360 with w2s. The suspension was sorted out ok but the combo was mis-matched pretty good. Needed more gear and converter and a whole lot more compression. I worked my 20 yo *** off for a year to put that thing together and he bought some parts and in two weeks had a race car. At least that’s how I remember thinking about it

I seen these run low 12s out to the box mid 12s with street tires and high 11s with slicks ane gutted what was your best pass with w2 heads ? My buddy’s short block had a 508 and m1 intake.

In a dedicated bracket car, well lightened, that will do well.

At 20, you had a plan and executed it?
JOB WELL DONE!
I do not expect any young fella to have his stuff sorted out and together at all. Very few I meet have it together.
Also, it was your friends boss. As soon as a I read that, I heard money jingling in his pocket. He could and did afford himself something a young guy can’t. Now that you have had an additional 20 years.... my how the game has changed!

I have seen some vendors advertise these motors for 10k. Bluprint has a 375 hp for a fraction of that. I bought mine from a member here years ago.

Moparhead, mine was not a magnum crate, it was a an la360. It was a friend of a friend who had the crate motor. But I think (if memory serves me correctly) my best pass with that w2 motor in the car was mid to low 11s. Like 40s or 30s at somewhere near 114 mph. But I’m going off of memory and that car has had 4 engines in it since then.

Rumble, my only plan was to go fast and get chicks. Things haven’t changed much. I was good at one and not the other.

Always wanted to put w2s on my built 340 bad *** ride

Really is a good head. I still have the set I ran on that shortblock and another brand new set of econos still in the box from like 2003. Also have a set of crane w2 gold race 1.6s that have never been opened. One day I’ll get to all of these projects.
