Anybody know if a 65 273 valiant would have bigger torsion bars than a 64 /6 valiant?

A/c cars seemed to always have the next larger bars. Id say yes to question if compared to a slant car.

I am told Yes. The early A V-8 Torsion bars are a heavier spring than than a slant 6. As far as actual size? I do not know.

Yes,there wer 6 cyl ,273 2bbl ,AND 273 4bbl bars used in 65 and 66 .In 64 there were just 6 and 273 2bbl size .The numbers are listed in the parts manual . I used the 4bbl ones in my 6 cyl 65 Valiant wagon for a stiffer ride.

Slant six bars were typically .83, while non-hi-po V8s were .85. Hi-po V8s were usually .87, like the later 340 cars (but Galen Govier's white books say that some 273 hi-po motors came with .89 bars). But station wagons I think were heavier duty than sedans with the same motor, along with maybe air cars. Also, at least many, if not all, years, HD suspension was optional for all engines. Best way to be sure what any early A has is get the numbers off the bars and then look the numbers up.

And you can buy after-market A-body T-bars fairly cheap (<$200?). I think 1"D is cheapest since most popular. Most people say it gives a firm ride like a modern car, and not too stiff. Probably safer too on twisty roads. The boat feel is nice, but can get squirrely.
