That looks really good. I love your "hot tank". lol I gotta make me one now.

Apple, white, rice or balsamic and for how long?

Apple is twice as strong as the white.
The important thing is to neutralize the acid from the vinegar by either Flushing it off with large amounts of water or using baking soda in water to neutralize it.

Distilled White Vinegar, the cleaning type at 6%. From your local grocery store.

5% works also, but just not as strong. Can rebottle the used vinegar to save and use again on the next project.

Crankshaft was fully submerged, soaked overnight for 16 hours, then thoroughly rinsed with distlled water.

Then polished, cleaned and oiled untill assembly.

Yeah never mind. LOL

Nice work. Did you just polish the journals and call it a day or did you have to polish the rest of the crank for that finish?

Polished the crankshaft with the typical 1" wide emery cloth, and followed up with Crocus Cloth for the final finish. Excellent final smooth finish.

Polished up the remaining counter weights with Scotchbrite Scuff Pads and WD-40, with final wipe and polish cotton cloths. They cleaned up real easy because the Vinegar Dunk loosened everthing up right down to the bare cast.

Also to do a good uniform polishing job I made up a 2 Vee platform out of 2x8's with felt pads to set the main journals on, while rotating the crankshaft at a very slow speed during the polishing operation.

Brand New . . .

Vinegar is great for removing rust. I soaked a really rusty TQ intake for a few days In white vinegar and it removed all the rust. Just takes time for it to do its magic.

Oh ****
scotchbright has all those small carbide particles and wd 40 imbeds them deep
better start over with carb cleaner or brakecleen and lots of air
hard to get it all out of the oil passages
you might hone the passages first then use a wire brush if they are rough drilled it's tough
ask me how I know

For the most part it is all about technique. We plug the oil runs with small pieces of high density foam for the polishing process to keep debris out, and stay off of the crank journals with the scotchbrite pads. Thorough solvent final clean with bottle brushes and final WD-40 application to keep it from flash rusting as it is spotless clean.

that's a relief
I've had to clean a few motors with the old head gaskets removed from the block with scotchbright
new build did not last long
