Hi guys, to say this conversation is a rarity for me is an understatement, I have been turning wrenches since I was 13 when I re-built my sister’s 225 slant six in her 72 challenger and I just turned 56. I spent my adult life in the Army and I use to race from one end of the country to the other. But they bombed the World Trades Center in 2001 while I was at Bomb Tech. school and we all got put on stop loss. So everything went into storage and I and my buddies went to War. Don’t get me wrong I am not complaining I have three tours in Iraq and 2 in Afghanistan, and served with some great people. I was wounded twice and eventually retired in 2013 because I had to many Cadaver parts in me, lol but all is good, I was luckier than a lot of guys. My body pain has gotten to the level where I am ready to race again, so here I am, hat in hand, and looking for help. I am not telling you all this for sympathy, but to explain where I am, in my racing life. To explain what all this is like when I start deploying my daughter was 8 years old after my last tour she was graduating from high school. While at Bomb Tech School I was in the middle of changing over to a larger race motor, so I sold a lot of my stuff and I was buying new stuff, well it is all out dated and my knowledge is lagging to say the least. It is a little like walking through a time machine and now I have missing time. So after that long and painful introduction lol I will ask my questions, I have a 1973 Dart Sport tubbed and caged (Weight is 2200lb with a small block and my big butt in it) I have 2 / 727 trans 1- BB and 1-SB and both have trans brake,4500 stall, with 272 front gear with 33”x 16”x15” Goodyears, with 433 gears. My dilemma is I have two partial engines. and Head technology has gone and left me behind, and I need some help if you would please. 1 is a (440 with 4.375 bore pistons and 4.15 stroker, H-Beam rods, girdle bottom end, with steel caps and a balanced rotating assembly, and I run a Tunnel Ram). Then I have an (R4 Siamese Bore Casting, 4.08 bore, 4.00 stroke, H-beam rods, girdle bottom end, and again and I run a Tunnel Ram). Both blocks have been squared, 0 decked, heat treated, line honed and honed with torque plates, and flat top pistons, using .070 TMG head gaskets. I was drawn towards the Trick Flow head 190 SB / and Trick Flow heads 270 BB. For obvious reasons, I can use my old rockers and intake, but I no nothing about them. Or would you go with the Victor’s, Indy, or old school B1/W2, and the BIGEST Question of all, drum roll please “Big Block or Small Block” lol. I am sorry about all the writing but my head is swimming, thanks

First of all, thank you for your service, brother.
Second, determine the class you want to run, then choose BB or SB.
Third, while I have no experience with them I would go with Trick Flow.

Thank you for your service! We get to build cool a$$ cars and drive the hell outta them because of our service men & women.
I agree with Grumpyoldman, pick a block and start build from the block out.

I can't help with any of this but "we" are going to have to "demand" photos!!! LOLOL. Sounds like you have a monster in the making!!

I’d do a big block and trick Flow heads.

The small block a/trick Flow heads will make great power. But it is still a street head. A really really good one, but a street head.

You will make more and better power with the big block. Use as much aluminum as you can to keep the weight down you’ll be fine.

The other big block heads can make more power. The nice thing about the trick Flow RB heads is that there inexpensive and easy to use.

Thanks ....... I always like to hear from the Mopar Mafia before I call in and ask, Mopar guys usually give me the straight scoop
I am going for mid 8’s / 5.70, to 8.90 / 6.0 this will mean I will need 500 to 550 mechanical horse power I use a duel plate Nitrous Express kit adjustable from 150 to 500, I will run 250 or less.

Good point rumblefish360, that is what I was looking for the first year or two, trying to use some of my old stuff. By the way I read that book "Rumblefish" when I was in high school great name

If you really want go fast heads , even better than the t f 270`s , look at B1 heads , reported over 400cfm w/ the right port job !

Welcome to A bodies. U will have more posts on this thread than u had v4 u started this 1. U can’t go wrong with a B1 top end on either builds. 2200 lbs with u in it. Tell us about it. They make a fair bit more power. Kim

Read the same book and seen the movie. Good stuff.

However, I choose the screen name after what my car is and does. The car is a ‘73 Cuda that has always rumbled when I drive it. It was hit and never righted. But for the purchase price of $600, I’m not complaining!!!!

Yea, you read that right, $600. Back in ‘87, *I Think!*
Build, race, repeat!

Jim Mitchell and I pulled a Challenger
convertible out of the weeds for free
back when pick pull were full of e bodies
it ended up "plumb crazy" with a 6 pack
and a core support with the correct vin
his wife's car
they got divorced
the 62 2 dr C body stick shift poly wagon also gone
I still have the 62 413 and correct 4 speed 4 that project
anyone need the impossible to find galss the rear side glass is looooong

Yes, I'd like to see the 2200 lb combination also. My Demon with glass nose, doors, & deck lid, Lexan windows, small block 416, 904 trans, 5 gallons of fuel & my fat butt in it tips the scales at 2300 lbs even with a 50/50 weight bias front to rear.

Hey 340Baby, thanks for your service. Welcome back to the racing hobby. I don't have recommend on heads, but whatever you choose enjoy.

In order to use what you already have, my first thought is.........unless your tunnel ram intake for the big block can be ported to Max Wedge size..........I would go with the 240 Trick Flow. Man, a stock valved, mildly ported (260 cfm) iron head on just a 440 can get you to over 500 HP. AndyF has shown us the OOTB 240 can make over 700 HP.

I love it I bought my street Dart Sport for $800.00 in 1981 and have loved it ever since, my name comes from everyone asking me whats in it, and I stated replying "340 Baby" and I have a vanity plate that says the same thing....... to cool

LMAO! Now that’s a good one, I like it.
I was always asked what shift kit I had in my trans.
I always said “It’s called a “left foot” express.“
The trans is a manual. It helped lead to this plate I used to own. Not that anybody believed it much until...

Do you have a steel or molly cage???

And why would you changed the body, eventually I would like to do a small body, but I have this one and have been racing it for years. I am not being a SA I really am interested in your answer
Welcome 340baby and thank you as well for all your years of commitment to defense of this great country we live in.
I think dirtywhiteboy meant to find another "A" body in addition to your Dart Sport and build both of those engines, the bb and the sb....funds allowing of course...lol
