Decent Slant 6 carb, intake, header setup

I love my slant truck, used to commute around town and run truck errands. But I fear the freeway. I only know Magnum 5.2/5.9... the blocks are nearly identical. I can't see a reason for the 318 if you have an open choice, with the 360 having so much more power under the curve in stock form. The numbers don't really reflect the difference you feel.

My brother, an old school Chrysler mechanic, suggested a 360 transplant, as well. If I go that way, I must do the stroker 408. If the slant can do 9-12 second quarter mile runs, Why is it that everyone insists on a V-8 transplant? Is it because the slanty is not a good all around street performance engine? Or, is it just the easier and more cost effective way to get something done?
