727 Pump/Converter Question

Is this surface on the pump stator a bearing surface in the converter?

The reason I ask is the pump stator on the 727 I'm building has some rust on that surface and I'm wondering if it'll cause any issues.
 
Badly pitted? I'd just go around with some 180# sandpaper, maybe finer and call it good if it's not rusted to death.

No, it's not bad at all. I was just wondering how nice I need to get it based on what that surface is for.
