68 Dart Project.

Dug the KB out of the crate today, one very nice piece.

A practise run. Think it needs to just stay natural aluminum, no paint.

Was able to confirm measurements, engine plate brackets etc were all positioned right. TTI had HEMI location measurements on their site, confident the TTI's will fit right into place when it's time. The 4-core rad takes up some room but still enough space to run a nice sized stout mechanical fan.

Running out of stuff to do, good thing the block showed up! Got a Hemi to build now.

To keep the natural aluminum block looking fresh, at least hit it with a coat of clear.

I installed an FHO (For Hemis Only / Canada) Hemi in a 72 dart,.....they use the same block. Not sure what heads / valve covers you are planning, but the mandatory to seal cast aluminum valve covers are huge and required a custom offset master cylinder bracket that not only moved the master over....but up. might want to test fit heads / valve covers before you put away the thinking cap and hammer.

Take note of the small plug in the oil galley next to the starter. this one required a little grinding / massaging to get the mini starter to fit. FHO noted that where most of us would normally install the oil pressure gauge port at the rear / top of the block near the intake is not sufficient and used one of the ports on the oil galley on the drivers side.

you likely already know the above but as I tell my wife....."just tryin' to help".

Good info Denny. Yes I'm working with Tim @ FHO on a parts supply. I've offset the MC but only over, not upward. Funny, just 2 days ago I made up my steel braid teflon oil pressure gauge line, to locate to the top rear of the block.. lol. Some redo work for me now. Thanks for checking in!

Yes, They're 1/2" cross bolts. Head stud thread is also 1/2", external oil pick up only. A pretty nice piece.
I missed the lack of internal oil pick-up.
Does your offset master cylinder adapter have a bevel on the drivers side outer edge?

LOL....I had the one on the 72 Dart all plumbed and working when it was pointed out to me. Easy peasy to re-do.....compared to the other challenges on these Hemi / A-body builds.

The 72 Dart has an HDK.....so not real sure if or how your clearance will be.....hence the "heads up". Tim told the owner of the car that most make firewall modification to accommodate the BMF valve covers . I went another route with a custom offset adapter. Drew it on a cocktail napkin and my fab guy made it...first pass too, which is unusual.

Yes it does. It contours to the vertical raised firewall shape.

That bracket will likely solve your clearance woes, but mission impossible with an extra pedal. Would not hesitate with an automatic.

Mike sends a short piece of chrome moly to hang both the brake and clutch pedal left of the assembly and weld an end bracket to the underside of the air cavity. AT just a standoff from the pedal.

No extra pedal needed, got my old 67 here with 3 pedals and that's enough!

Hoping this isn't needed but the good thing is I won't have to invent it now if I do, thanks!!!

Been keeping busy on the Dart. Waiting for a parts sheet to show up, also trying to find actual build date on this KB block, waiting for KB to call back with what he digs up. Some
Pics on what’s been going on.

Installed a jumper to the starter. Using a ford type solenoid and relay on the Dart.

Mounted the alternator. Fab’d the brackets.

not too much space. My 19” clutch fan is too tight. Got a new blade on order.

How is the alternator bracket attached to the engine plate?
(somehow I missed the 67 427 Camaro. missed a 68 Nickey Camaro with the L88 by $100....back in'75)

There's 2 5/16" studs on the bracket, through the plate and nuts on the rear. The adjustment arm pivots off of the frame.

Yeah, my old Camaro, had it a couple of decades +. Being a Mopar site I don't mention it. Lol.
Painted it in 1997 actually. About 6 years ago I built the roller 427 small block, a magnum 6 speed behind it with 4.10's in the 12 bolt with moser axles. It runs on pump gas and it's my around town on nice days as a parts grabber, etc. Had it down the track 5 years back. With no rear tire, idle off the lights it went 121 @ 11.4. And told to take it home and put a bar in it, never took it back.

Ok, 1 picture. Should have had this rubber on it years ago when I took it to the track!

WOW! That's quicker than PHR's 67 Nickey Camaro when all was said and done. That was 427-425,under hood dual quads,slicks,4.56(?) gears. VERY NICE!
jealous, yes, but probably more because I don't get my behind in gear and accomplish something.

can you expound on the jumper to stater?

No rush, it's always there for you when you are ready for it. Besides, the more you do the more it costs, sure noticing it with this hemi project.
The 67 is getting treated to some old school this spring. It will be just like what you'd see on the street about 50 years back and it will go with the 10K Sun Super Chrome Cup tach on the column.
