No longer here.
Looking for modern equivalent for the chrome ecu, that is no longer available. Dad had the chrome one with blue heat sink, loaned it out, and it's now mia, (imagine that). Still looking for it. In the meantime, I'm looking to see what else is available. His car will not run on anything less than that chrome box. What are the options?

What exactly are you looking for? Not following why it will only run on that box.

I need the high performance chrome box. It goes on a 383 with 11:1 compression built for drag racing. Runs with Accell yellow supercoil.

You want a real good spark for that high compression engine junk that factory crap and go with a M.S.D. system I'm sure you'll see a BIG difference..

Got you. Dam I just sold one a few weeks ago nos also. I have nothing that will work. Looks like a few on that upper chart will work starting on the second down.

I converted my 72 challenger 340 with an HEI conversion with GM module mopar hei conversion , or there are many conversions better than the factory electronic ignition box , MSD an others are much better .

I 'm having a hard time figuring out what's what. Outside of colour, I can't cross reference part numbers. Have to go to parts store I guess

Parts stores will not help you. "Chrome" refers to a SPECIFIC MOPAR part. Not an aftermarket "replacement" that happens to be chrome color

Can you type out the part no. on the Gold box? I can't read it, glare...........

Perhaps over the OE factory ignition, yea. Over the chrome and gold, ehhhhh, no.

Is that an MSD5 with the Mopar ECU plug? I once had a Mopar branded MSD7 with the Mopar plug.

P3690726, MSD, 404BC patent pending, Manufactured for: CHRYSLER CORPORATION, By: AUTOTRONIC CONTROLS CORPORATION, SERIAL NO: 3065

AFAIK the MSD 404BC predates the MSD 6 and 7 series.

LMAO..chrome and gold are just boxes..a complete M.S.D. system CAN'T be touched by anything mopar/fiat makes..have run 2 different M.S.D. on my dusters always performed flawlessly, something that could NEVER be said EVER about Mopar ignition systems:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

The tables can be a little confusing but there are several that will work with the big yellow super coil.
From the 1989 catalog, theis is the MP p-part number.

From the ''Speed Secrets" version of the bulletin
it could be used with the 3 'chrome' boxes with part numbers listed next to the check in the footnotes.

Any resistor from .5 to .8 ohms was acceptable, but .8 was prefered.

If you can't find a p/n on it, then you have to try to go by the heat sink, and how it was used. Two had blue.

The Superstock/Nascar unit will be hard to find.
Only the p4120505 from the '89 catalog was suitable for street use - the heat sink was different.

edit: Somewhere around '89 I suspect the 0505 'chrome boxes' were painted orange as we cansee in the catalog photo,
I had a chrome ECU purchased around then, and it was chrome. Doubt I still have it to see what color the heat sink was.

I believe I have the P4120600 gold box hanging on the wall in the shop.

I can tell you that is a bad mother humper. At 10k it has ONE DEGREE of retard!!

I need to do some more testing, but that box is worth it's weight in gold if you have one.

The orange box I have on the wall starts to retard about 5,000 and is loosing 3-4 degrees at about 7,000.
