It never ends. Leaky selector shaft seal.

Selector shaft seal on my A500 is leaking, which is strange since I replaced it when I built this trans, and it's only been up and running for a little over a week. Guess it's possible I damaged the seal when putting the valve body in or just got a crappy seal. Anyone ever changed one without dropping the trans, or at least the pan and valve body?
This sucks, had a 2x3 puddle under the car this morning. Trans is soaked all around the selector shaft.

I have done it without pulling the pan... I won't do it that way again.

I suggest you pull the pan and valve body. There is a special tool designed to remove the shift seal on a Chrysler trans without pulling the valve body. It's a nice tool to have but I'm too cheap.
 
Your problem looks like the lingage is flexing the shaft. Just look at the picture and you can see the shift linkage and the throttle pressure leavers are binding. I'll bet if you take the levers off the leak will stop.. Had one come here that was leaking. The lokar throttle pressure wasn't install properly.
 
Sometimes grit gets in the seal and cuts a groove in the shaft. Then you need a taller seal that rides in an unworn area.

I think it looks like that just from the angle I was able to take the picture, kinda looks like the kickdown lever is riding on top of the shifter cable, but I assure you that it's just an optional illusion. There is plenty of clearance between the two and they both move freely without any binding between the two.

It's a pain in the *** to do in the car but...
I use a small section of all thread with washers and nuts on it to pull the seal in place, but you still have to pull the VB.
That tool is the ticket.
Don't forget there is a seal around the TP shaft as well as the main large one.
 
Bought the tool and a new seal.
Just swapped it out, but going to wait a couple days and see if its still seeping fluid before I put everything back together.

Fingers crossed.

Some had an O ring and some had a little rubber seal kind of like the speedo pinion uses only larger.
Probably not a pressure or vent issue since it did it sitting.
Sure could see a lot of fluid around the base of the selector shaft though.

He probably has it fixed by now.:D

I think I have it fixed.
To answer 67Dart273's question, its been leaking a nice size puddle every day just sitting in the garage so doubt it has anything to do with pressure or venting.
This one has no o-ring, just the selector shaft seal, and a small rubber seal at the top that seals around the throttle pressure lever shaft (replaced that too just for the hell of it), but it really was seeping up around the selector shaft.
Anyway, changed out the seal yesterday, cleaned everything off really well, let it sit 24 hours and it's dry try as a bone. So I just finished putting everything back together. Put all my tools away, swept up around the car. Got ready to fire it up, and I Can't Find The KEYS!

Arrrrrgggg, I can't believe it, I've looked everywhere and no sign of them. There on a separate key chain from my other stuff.
 
Didn't find them, but I think I know where they are.
Probably had them in my pocket after working on the car one morning, then when I got to work I probably hung them on a hook in my area. I have to carry a giant ring of keys for work and a radio, sometimes I'll try to empty my pockets so I have less weight to carry around.
 
Buddy did one in a beater. Said F it and pulled the carpet and took a hole saw and cut an 'access hole' right over the seal. Got in there and drove home a new one. SOB never leaked after that! Same guy cut a hole in the firewall to get to his leaking heater core. pop riveted a new oversized panel over the hole. Looked legit!
 
3/8 threaded rod and washers with 3/8 nuts and indian head sealer on edges of seal good to go, valve body and pan drop , messy but worth it .
