What radiators fit well in the 64 barracuda with a 360?
in my oem 64 dart 273-2bbl, 4spd, I just used the oem 273 rad when I swapped in a mildly hopped 70 340. It wasn't a problem with 3.91 gears but became a bit of an issue when I went to 4.10 or 4.30's ( I can't remember which, now)What radiators fit well in the 64 barracuda with a 360?
What was the radiator made for/part number?I used a Champion 3 row aluminum for my 65 Formula S. 65'
This one. What was the radiator made for/part number?
I am looking at a radiator made for a later duster.
The 64's radiator opening is identical to a 65, its the 64's radiator flange that is 3" wider on slant fan side. They just cheated and put in a smaller core. Hard to find a pic of a survivor as they are all the 65 size now.Bear in mind that the 64’s radiator opening is only 19 inches wide; 65 and later are 22inches wide and later years are 26 inches wide as well which will play a role in whatever radiator you chose
No it's not if it is a 6 cylinder car.The 64 has a smaller hole where the radiator fits for 6 cyl cars and the radiator doesn't have that wide side piece like the 6 cyl 65 and 66 haveThe 64's radiator opening is identical to a 65, its the 64's radiator flange that is 3" wider on slant fan side. For what it's worth, I had a three row core put in my 65 Barracuda's original 273 radiator and my 340 never runs over 180. I also have a three row core in the original 19" radiator in my 64 Polara and it keeps my 434 (stroker 383) at 180 also. I don't have a problem with anyone switching to aluminum since it's getting harder and harder to find anyone who can do radiator work, and way more expensive than it used to be when you do. However, it's not necessary to switch to aluminum to keep your motor cool.Just put a 340 in my ‘65 Barracuda and had overheating problems with stock 2 core radiator, (which worked fine with the 273 commando). I installed a 22” 3 core aluminum radiator and have no more problems.
Hmm, I must have dealt with a 64 6 then as the rad in that was still the 19 with the extended flange even though the PO had put a 340/4sp in it! I had the core forever in my back yard until the elements got to it and wife gave it to the roving scrap metal man. I learned something today. The 64's radiator opening is identical to a 65, its the 64's radiator flange that is 3" wider on slant fan side. They just cheated and put in a smaller core. I have been out of town. My memory was that the radiator opening in my 65 Barracuda was 19 inches, but I got back home today and measured it. It's 22 inches. My 64 Barracuda radiator opening is only 19" and has a 273 motor. I know the 65 has a larger opening.
