Is the only difference between the 904/727 plates the bolt pattern for the converter or is there something else I’m missing? Maybe the 904 plate is smaller because the tranny is? Will the 904 1 work in the 727 but the 727 won’t fit into the 904? Thanks. Kim

There are differences based on internal or external balancing on the 360/727 plates, Summit lists a different p/n for 904s.
 
I just sold this 360/904 plate last week. Is it a balance issue?

The 904 plate is a smaller diameter so it will clear the nose of the starter. It will work with a 727.
Some guys have used the 727 plate on the 904 but had to grind on the starter.
Bolt patterns are the same but 727 may have 3 and 904 2.

Bolt patterns for different converters. The 727 has the small holes an the big holes for the 10 in and then they have the holes for the 12 in.

The 904 I believe has the big holes and small holes for the 10-inch but does not have the 12 inch pattern on it. I believe that's how it goes.
 
top picture is a 360/727 flexplate on top of it is a 360/904 flexplate.....the 727 is about an inch larger to fit the larger bolt circle of the 727 converter....the 904 and smaller race converter use the 10 inch bolt circle of the 904 flexplate

bottom pictures shows 360 magnum flexplate on a neutral balanced flexplate

I think if I remember right,
1) 727 converter pattern
2) 904 converter pattern
3) hemi converter... Bigger bolts, same pattern as one of the others. Mine has a 3 bolts pattern...
