appreciated. I have . 318 Dart

They don't fit. That's what the deal is.

Yea if they're the generic block hugger shorties, ain't happenin'. Hedman 78500 is what you want.

Those don't fit A bodies either, regardless of what Hedman, Summit, Jegs or anyone else says. They don't fit.

Really? Good to know. Glad I never made that mistake, then.
I thought with some strategic 90 degree mandrel bent tubes hacked together you can make them work. But then I figured, what's the point? Really without knowing what he's working on, it's all just a guess.
I mean, I guess we can assume its an a body.

There was a member here that actually modified the driver's side and made it work. It looked pretty good. He sent them out and had them ceramic coated. He upgraded and later sold them. He relocated the #3 pipe somehow and made it work. did a pretty good job on it. Why Hedman cannot, I have no idea.

Ok, so which headers would be the most stright forward install for a 68 dart? I don't care if they are shorties or long tubes.

Yes, I just saw those, but tti are about $550 and Doug's are about $500. Why did you say $1000, just curious of hidden cost

No hidden cost. Do you want them to last or rust? The coated option pushes them close to 1K. If you don't get them coated, I would go with the Summit long tube headers that are around 150 bucks, but they hang lower. That's no problem as long as your car isn't in the weeds as they say.

also, with a 318, why do you want headers?

(and i dont mind if you do)

but chances are, that stock 340 manifolds will flow more then you'd ever need on a 318
now, the price of a set of those would be close to a set of uncoated dougs, but still

Copy that. The Doug's look pretty good may go with those. Thx also, I will go with edelbrock from heads later.

RRR is right about headman shorties. I had to beat the **** out of the drivers side to get it to fit. After a rebuild I put my 340 hipos on.

You can get the Dougs from Summit, ceramic coated, for $672.

Doug's Headers D453

Autozone sometimes has them, as well as a 20% internet discount that can be used. But check to make sure they’re in stock.

As for the TTI shorties, I have fitted them to my Duster as well as the Doug’s. The Dougs fit just as well. The Dougs took a couple small dimples to clear my 1.12” torsion bars, but the TTI’s head tubes had issues clearing my 340 bellhousing and my shorty oil filter with a Canton oil sandwich plate. I liked the Dougs better and that’s what’s on my car now.

As for the manifolds, no reason a 318 can’t benefit from headers. I have ran into cracked manifolds, warped manifolds that wouldn’t seal to the head, and just as many leaky seals as headers. The manifolds are easier to install for sure, but 50 year old manifolds have plenty of issues that a new set of headers usually don’t.

Yes, I like the little 318 good engine. I will be building on it so I might as well get some headers that will do
