I think it has to be brand new.

Again just a party trick........
But after a couple cocktails could get interesting.....

I just did this one at work a few minutes ago. Got it to stand for about 5 minutes before it fell over.

The fact that anyone at NASA had to take time out of their day to explain why this is a stupid hoax just shows how science illiterate the general public is.

From NASA-
“This is another social media hoax that exemplifies how quickly pseudoscience and false claims can go viral. While this hoax was harmless, it also shows why it's important for all of us to do some fact checking and research — including checking in with @NASA and NASA.gov for real science fun facts — before jumping into the latest viral craze."

What is the broom challenge? Internet hoax sweeps social media

Short version- if your broom stood up on end today, it will tomorrow. And the day after, and the day after, and a week from now, a month from now, etc, etc. There is no gravitational phenomenon. Just a bunch of people with too much time on their hands and nothing better to do.

The thread title had me thinking that the earth's gravity was increasing due to the g r o w I n g obesity epidemic...
