anyone wanna take a guess on how passes before the stock 904 Input shaft breaks
I finally got my car to cut a good light
It took leaving off the two-step @ 5k
I personally don’t have any experience with treating a stock input shaft this rough
I kinda feel like it’s not having a good time
But I’m gonna keep on keeping on
Any guesses on how many passes before breaks
O yeah the car is roughly 3000lbs

Well we’re in the same boat.... I have roughly 10 good hits on my stock stuff with the W8 mill in. 1.24 60 and 5.79 in the 1\8th.... I’ll test it more when the engine makes it back in the car. Until then it has a good thirty hits with our slow iron head combo.

I got one 904 that i have using with a transbrake since 1994.....probably hundreds and hundreds of passes on it....car weight is around 2900....but normally used a 2 step and delay box at 3000 rpm.

Thanks to both of you guys I was hoping for at least one of you to reply and I got both of the pros
I’m gonna keep on the same path
With the lights I’m cutting I can be somewhat competitive. man those shafts are a ton of money
Now that our local index series allows delay boxes in the class I suspect the class will be flooded with light Chasis cars that will be killer on the 4 tenths protree
Should be a great race season!!

Prior to the 904 swap I had this discussion with Darren Smith (Pro Trans).... he just grinned and said “I’d run it...” he’ll be the first person I text when/if the issue rears it’s ugly head!

Darren and I spoke about it
If it breaks I’ll update
I have a race on the 22nd of feb
So Hopefully I can go a few rounds
I also have a ton of power taken out of the engine to run the 7.0 index
It is only 60’n in the high 1.40’s but it sure hits the tire hard when I let go of the button Your 1.24 makes me feel better that’s for sure

I have a Torque Command transmission in the AMX, AMC 904. 904 internals, AMC bellhousing. Stock input, 2.74 1st gear, aluminum front drum, Griner trans brake. Over 200 runs, freshened last year. Been 1.29 60 ft. , and 9.92 at 3150 lbs with zero problems with the trans.
