A person forgets, from time to time, just how "new" truly portable storage media IS. When I went to Navy ET school in 68/9, a friend of mine had I think a pretty darn new Munce 8 track, but most of his tapes were 4 track. He had a "gizmo" you stuck in the tape cartridge that provided the capstain idler---as a 4 track deck had the idler on a hinge, and entered the cartridge mechanically
