I am in the process of redoing my floor so while I was scrapping old seam sealer off I noticed this box and a plug next to it. 1972 Dodge Dart, slant, no ac, auto on the column. I don’t know of anything that doesn’t work, other than, dash lights, map light, and fuel gauge. Should I plug this back in or leave it? What is it? I’m not much of a wiring guy yet... I started my restoration at the back of the vehicle.

Key switch buzzer. This is the rundown from your friendly dealer service training, circa 1969.

Well there it is! Plugged it back in, put the key in and it buzzed. I think I’m going to leave it unplugged though. Ha. Pretty annoying sound! No wonder it was unplugged. Thanks!!

Is that why it is unplugged ?
unplug the top plug and seen if your horn still works !
I unplugged the top one, your right! The horn doesn’t work. So horn is the top and buzzer is the bottom. And honestly I don’t know why it’s unplugged. I’ve only had this car about a year and a half. It started and nothing smoked. Haha. I never really needed to be under the dash yet. Just something that caught my eye when I was working on the floor.

Very annoying, indeed! And if you think it is annoying now, you should hear it when the dome light switches start getting faulty and it makes weak intermittent ground. Sounds like someone torturing a bumble bee under the dash.

But it will help prevent the embaressment of leaving the keys in the ignition and locking yourself out! LOL.
That must have been implemented after they got rid of the 'must use key to lock the door' configuration.
Although if it was there, I don't remember it working on my '75.
Fortunately I only did dumber things like lock my keys in the trunk. LOL. But getting them out I could solve on my own. :)

its a horn relay with key switch buzzer

Really??!! I never knew that. Thank God they decided to use a buzzer instead of just having the horn be the key-in warning lol. :poke:

My 70 RR buzzer was unplugged "so early" and "so long" I forgot at one point that the car was supposed to have one. Another "little deal" that went away was the clutch safety switch and the reverse lockout. The lockout may have "left town" when I replaced the shifter.

Use your label maker and put a wee tag on it, or you'll be on this forum five years from now trying to figure out what the heck that was.
