Just have a basic question about a 1970 Duster 340 engine (4 sp).

Is there suppose to be an "angle iron" type brace from the bellhousing going (at an angle) to the block located just beneath the oil filter (pass. side)? I have a 1969 318 (auto.) in a B-body with one of these factory braces.

Thanks for the help, as usual.

There is, but most folks remove them if they have to change anything that involves separating the engine and transmission.

ive always put one in, even if it was missing. just good to have one, especially if building any sort of power imho.

The braces on each side are on automatic transmission cars.

They were not used on manual transmission cars.

OK, good to know. Now, was the brace for the 4 sp. cars the EXACT SAME as the Auto. cars?

Looks like I'm going to have to find one of these and might as well get the correct one the first time!

Now I wonder why not? You'd think they'd used them on the manual transmission cars first with all of the snatching around the clutch gets.

Throw them in the trash along with stock ex.manifolds and thermo-bog carbs:D:D

They usually got removed the 1st time headers were installed, and never reinstalled. Most times they would interfere with the headers.
