jerseyville, illinois.
got into a discussion with friends and tried to figure out where all the cars/trucks on craigslist have gone. it seems that cl charges 5.00 to list your vehicle. we did not realize that. maybe the brown bottle fog, who knows. but if you have a unit to sell, is 5.00 too much to part with for ad? i don't think so myself. if you have a 50 car maybe 5.00 kills you. if you have a 3500 car whats 5.00? are people really that cheap? we also see more units advertised in the parts section. what gives? now time to get off soap box and buy another round cause its my turn.

i listed a truck on there a while ago
but when they started to charge me, no matter how little, to deal with the kind of buyers you meet on craigslist i said forget it

have you checked fakebook?
i hear you can sell stuff on there too

not really looking to buy except for a better a body than i had, but i think you are correct about all the tire kickers/sidewalk superintendents out there. along with all the crooks that meet you somewhere and rob you. it just seems abnormal from what is was bout 6-12 months ago.

Checkout FB Marketplace in general, it has taken over thee listings. IMO still mostly over priced junk. Decent cars priced fairly will tend to sell there given time.

I've sold several items, on craigslist. -- You can tell the BSers. -- I have never sold a vehicle.

The sellers also can get numb. If I ask for some decent pics or honest representation, some get pissed and hostile. Usually the idiots.

Finding good projects before the puter was so much better, there was networking with Mopar buds and MCG. Some high rollers loved Hemmings.

Projects get bought and go into resto or maybe just sitting in a garage getting dusty. Fewer all the time. Some go to the scraper.

Lots of these old cars continue to sit in some pasture out of sit when the idiot trying to sell it figures out it will not happen for his asking price.

Craigslist has been replaced by Facebook marketplace which is more effective and safer with zero spam.

Some people are listing their cars in the car part section to avoid the $5 charge....

Others have moved to Facebook marketplace....

As much as I think Facebook is as corrupt of a surveillance company as could ever be made... they seem to have taken the Craigslist model and run with it. They, hands down, have the best listings for vehicles.

I like the fact that they charge a nominal fee.
Too many sellers were posting crap over and over and over and over and over .... you get the point.
As a buyer I dont want to wade thru pages of redundant crap and as a seller I want my stuff to not get buried under all that crap. !

Same thing happens here . I see some sellers bumping pages of the same parts for years ! Really? If no one bit on the over priced item for 6 months. LOWER THE PRICE!

I grabbed my wife's phone and look at the marketplace on her space book and the same things that are good are on Craigslist as well but all the junk at over price is on space book only because it's free...
The same exact humans are on both...lol...

Have to deal with lot of idiots on Craigslist. Listed my Dakota, got responses if I would trade, take payments. Listed a scooter, guy bitched that it had 9,500 miles,"that's almost 10,000" offered me half what I was asking, called again when I was on vacation and griped because I was out of town. Dada listed a pickup, guy called offered him less than asking,. Had to get a trailer, called back because trailer had a flat, called 4 times with different excuses, then was mad when sold to someone else with cash in hand and showed up when he said he would.
That's not including the scams.

Facebook allows you to view the seller before even contacting and if someone wants to contact you they have to use messenger.

I listed an old steel heavy picnic table that originally came from Sonic burger joint years ago for $100. I had 80 dits on 2 days/ Half wanted it for $20, the other half just did Spanish. I did sell it to the only guy that came and paid the $100. Bad part was most of my other messages dealing with real stuff (car stuff) somehow got deleted!!! LOL
I still say FB Marketplace is 100 times better than CL!!

FB MP seems to be the new go to, but if you think there are no scammers or spam you are mistaken. I report ads every day.

Faceplant has too many marketplace postings of yoyo’s asking what it’s worth, posting purely for attention, along with ridiculous asking prices, not to mention it’s share of absolute crush worthy junk. Then there are the back and forth one or two word responses to specific questions being asked, and some that don’t reply: the attention seekers, it gets tiresome at times. All the typical CL nonsense. Results can be all over the place too with other makes/models shown. Um, so if you pardon me, it’s time I go and log in and see what’s new there.....

^^^^ True. My old reliable way to find good projects, before that idiot Al Gore invented the 'net ( lol) was to just network friends. I had a bud that knew everyone and whats what but he was 500 mi away. But I could call and he always knew of a good project priced right. He was hemi E body guy and so he had no interest in the other stuff. But that was back in the 90's into early 2000, There were lots more good project around back then. Prices had not become stupid from BJ, CL, no FB!
I had another bud that would never tell me of anything, he was a hoarder, would never sell even a part, but we did occasionally trade parts, and cars once.
Real Mopar guys back then all did Mopar Collectors Guide. I read it for years till it took on the banner for the upper level guys, Mopar at the Manson crap, and high $ pro touring types.
There are lots of project cars that were "restored" 25 years ago, that people get now and think they are original survivors! lol At least it is a complete car that runs, but who knows what kind of work was done on it!!
I also think it so amusing of the people that can not connect the dots between what is the current actual price a car will sell for today and their envisioned price.
If it rains today and I get bored I can spend how many hours checking out FB MP!!???? Right!!???? lol

Does anyone remember the "Recycler" weekly mag? Nothing but car stereo installation and japanese motor importer ads.
