Valve Springs and Seals Info?

-
there are shims that fit around the step but idk if those springs need a step or not-contact comp

valves have 3/8" stem, retainers on current valves will be replaced, they have a diameter of 1.3X, didn't fit the springs that were in there as they are 1.49, will buy the retainers to match the springs, it is a dual spring, new springs are 995-16s, they will be installed on the heads as they sit,
As one who has personally installed 995-16 valve springs on J-heads I suppose I am not the one to listen to.

If IQ has used those springs- I have not, mostly use Isky, h IQis the go to source to ask about that spring seat and what retainer to use
comp does not mfg springs so it has to be a white box spring form somewhere and there must be other solutions for cups and retainers
Jones has lightweight retainers but IDK if he has one for that spring
Dart19666 at crower would also be a good source
sorry _ I'm west coast
Thanks for posting IQ I do like dual springs and will learn something here

Unfortunately in this case it appears that the OP may be somewhat obstinate and lacking the tools and understanding of what may be required.

having the inneer coil coil bind due to seat and/or retainer can ruin more than your day
Been there done that
I think I laid out what was required at the top of the thread
OP
measure twice- cut once

WOW

for those who come across this thread if you make it this far here is what I got regarding the replies here and some further follow up I did on my own for valve stem seals

confirm valve stem size
confirm type spring
the umbrella type seal does work, not suggested as the best unless some weird reason it is the only option
for the positive stop seals, confirm ID size needed
the viton seals seem to be the best all around choice
Teflon is a durable option, not as popular

To all, again, thanks for the replies

I did think about that. I'm sorry and apologize. The question was about valve seals and I had no input on that. I believe I should have remained silent about anything else. Damn ego. Again, sorry.

Fwiw....... you’re asking for problems using Comp 995-16 springs and not machining the steps down on the heads to fit the springs.

All the spring specs are listed assuming that both inner/outer springs will be sitting even with each other on the bottom.

This is just basic head prep-101.

If you look in the Comp catalog in the SB Mopar section for listings where the 995-16 is the recommended choice...... you’ll see there is a footnote by the part number.
That footnote is “requires machining on cylinder heads”.

I don’t know if they still offer them or not, but as was mentioned......the Hughes 1111 dual spring was meant to be a no machining req’d drop in.

I absolutely did not want to spend more money or time with the extra work, however good judgement prevailed, I changed my plans for the motor and in the process of cutting the seats now, finished one head today, springs will end up being installed within .002 of the 1.7 install height.

Hughes 1111 are no longer offered on their website....1129 is there spring of choice that requires the inner seat removed...and the 1129 is a PAC 1903
