Yea I know the Dart Vert is not done yet but I tend to think and plan way ahead. I doubt the wife will be happy long without AC. Does anyone have a /6 with factory AC that would take a lot of photos of the various brackets for the compressor, hoses, hose routing, dryer mounting, condenser and mounting, etc for me? My understanding is the first year for AC on the /6 was '65 so a '65 or '66 would be great. Trying to get a list of items I need to find for a factory AC setup.

Thanks.
Jim

If this is not an AC car the firewall is different. Unless you are dead set on "restore correct" and you really can't with a conversion, I'd "go aftermarket." Vintage air, etc

Understood, been through that putting a '73 AC system in the daughter '72 Duster. I have a plan. I want under the hood to look OEM. I'll figure out in the cabin later.

I want under the hood to look OEM. .

In that case you’re gonna need the 65 AC firewall to be OEM correct. Note I said a 65; although a 66 is mostly the same, there are major differences where the steering column is located. I can take pictures to show the differences.

When I got my 65 heat-only wagon, the plan from the gitgo was to add factory AC since I had a complete 65 AC firewall.

Here is some info I’ve learned about the early A factory AC:

A hard part to find most likely will be the drier and possible the water control valve. The drier is not your typical vertical drier due to lack of space in the early A narrow and cramped engine compartment - but a horizontal mounted drier that is installed on the flat area of the passenger inner fender. 65 and 66’s used the same drier and water control valve. The water control valve is vacuum operated rather than with a control cable. When you find a drier, send it to Classic Air in Tampa and get it rebuilt.

Slant AC hoses are different in length (and thus have different part numbers) than the V8 hoses. Classic Air will also rebuild all the hoses with new barrier hose and refinish the
Mounting hardware. They can also rebuild the compressor. I had all this done as I wanted everything under the hood to look and work as OEM.

The mounting holes on the core support are already punched for the factory condenser.

For the 65 Dart another hard part to find will be the HVAC bezel since not that many 65’s were equipped with factory AC.

The underdash AC components are the same whether for a slant or V8. I “think” I still have an original early A heater and AC box that mount to the firewall if interested.

i can take pics of individual parts from a slant that had factory AC if needed.

EDIT: the 2 mounting points for the bracket that holds the drier and the 3 mounting points that secure the water valve brackets have the indentations on top of the passenger inner fender. Just need to drill them to the appropriate size.

Would anything interchange from a C body?? I have a 66 fury with all the a/c stuff.

I also have a a/c switch and bezel from a 65 valiant.

If you can find a factory drier, alot of the aftermarket a/c places like vintage air, can rebuild the drier. To my knowledge , the drier (factory style horizontal) is not being repopped

Not sure. I’m just gathering info and see what can be done. Thanks!
This came off a 65 valiant dash. The vacuum switch is junk (typical) the bezel is decent and will polish nice and all the buttons are there and cleaned up real decent.

I'm opposite of you because I like non a/c cars and with the long runner intake I'm using, I don't need anything a/c related.

Unfortunately nothing will interchange from that Fury.

He has a 65 Dart so the AC bezel from that Valiant won’t work either.

I’d advertise that C Body stuff on For C Bodies Only. Someone adding factory air to a 65 Valiant should jump on that bezel!

I have never had very good luck getting rid of a/c stuff.

I have a lot of it for various years.

The fury has a 318 poly with the complete a/c setup. I need the a/c gone because the 440 is on its way in and budget permitting the 6 barrel too.

Keep it in mind if you buy more cars later and develop a need for a/c parts

I personally am getting too old to not have air. Guess our modern cars have spoiled me. So the 65 il is getting factory air and the 47 is getting a Chrysler- branded knee knocker I bought from another member

Great pictures Veeco. Noticed that there is not a metal fan shroud on the slat six.
I am slowly working on rebuilding the factory A/C system that I will be adding to my 66 valiant. One of the items that I plan on trying to remake is the horizontal dryer.
