My 67 Barracuda has metal isolators on the column mounting bracket that look like they were originally attached with injected nylon or something. From what I understand, this was an early attempt at collapsible column technology. Has anyone successfully reattached these?

If I end up having to use the 68-up nylon capsules, didn’t they use a special nut that was different than 67? And did some later columns have a jumper ground wire?

On our 67 we used the white plastic/nylon with no issues. They have grooves in them so they slide onto the support. The jumper wire is only an additional ground for the dash that attaches to column, nothing special.

All 67's use the "metal" insulators and the same bolts/nuts/ground wire, what is the problem? Should all bolt together with no issues?!?

I suppose there may have been something there to keep these blocks from falling out before they got to where they were going. I've never noticed evidence of it. The ground jumper serves column shift indicator lamp and horn. Completed ground path through the shaft, box coupling, etc,, is/was too iffy.

Sorry, I should’ve been more clear. The problem I’m having is that the insulators fit on the bracket very loose. There’s nothing to hold them on, and they just slide off. I’m not able to mount the column solidly.

Yeah I have seen that before once they are remove they get loose. The column will make noise. I have seen guys put them back on with JB weld quik-set. But you can replace them with the later plastic style. I have them if you need . Just PM your address and I'll put some in an envelope. Send me something later to cover shipping. I'll send you some extras with the proper fasteners special OEM Nuts washers and bolt. Steve

I see, and after reading your comment I began to question,, Have I ever removed these from the bracket before? I don't think so. Good luck with it.

I don't recall this being an issue, piece of tape, dab of silicon...
