Street Demon vs AVS2

-
I have the 703 cam in my 340 and it pulls 15 inches, its a larger cam so you should get your vacuum. And it has good bottom end, but I am running 3.23 gears with 28" tires.
Yes, cam choice is going to be interesting, again trying to avoid the temptation to go too big.

Could you possibly take a picture of this haircut you gave your carb? (Please)
I think I know what you did but, not sure.
Maybe those reading are interested too
Thanks for your input !

Ok, here you go. You can see the space where the lever was. I had to remove the carburetor, remove the primary throttle plates, slide the primary throttle shaft out and get in there with the cutting wheel on my dremel. It's really tight. I ended up having to finish the cut with a hammer and small chisel. Yeah, I kinda didn't like it either. But I got the thing off without tearing anything slam up. lol

Crap! '...one of phords better ideas' just got, 'improvised, adapted, and overcome'! lol
thanks! I/we will now know where to look.

I am thinking about my next build which will be an economy/performance 383 hopefully for a first generation Charger. The cam will likely be in the 210-220 range with low end torque more important than high end horsepower. I want a comfortable cruiser, that will get decent mileage cruising, with say a 2.94 gear, or possibly an overdrive. I like the looks of the 625 Street Demon with the composite body. It has small 1 3/8 primaries and the single large secondary blade. I have read good reviews on them. lately I have also been reading a lot of good things about the new 650 AVS2 with annular discharge boosters (the SD has conventional boosters). It also has slightly smaller primaries than secondaries. Any thoughts or real world experience with either?
I have the AVS650 on my 418 stroker for street driving. It has performed very well. I have not experienced any off idle skips or Boggs. I’m running the 6psi edelbrock mechanical fuel pump and a wide band O2 sensor. Before installing a pressure regulator I had inconsistent A/F ratio readings at idle and random idle speed variations. Looks like the valve on the Foats allow fuel to leak past and cause the erratic A/F and idle issues. Don’t know if engine bay heat and no fuel retuen was causing the fuel over-pressure conditions when the fuel got warm. I saw as much as 9psi on the fuel gauge between the fuel pump and the carb before installing the regulator.

Update

I finally found a car to slide under the Street Demon carb. It is a 1966 Charger with a 361. The previous owner added a four barrel and stock dual exhaust, and badged it as a 383 four barrel. The four barrel setup on it is a little weird, using a 76 400 thermoquad manifold with an adapter to an AFB carb. They had to butcher the air cleaner base plate to fit the carb. I just picked up a Performer manifold from a member here, which will work great with the Street Demon carb, and still allow me to use the factory A/C brackets.

My 750 CFM street demon should be for sale here pretty soon. I'm switching to EFI if I can ever find time to finish plumbing it.

I love the SD 625, like it's been said, not a whole lot to do with it out of the box.
Smaller primaries give it great throttle response and drivability.

I just picked up this Performer manifold from a member here, davescuda, to use with the SD 625, should work well.

I put a 650 AVS2 on my 340 this spring and am very happy with it. Adjusted the idle screws and it runs very well. Has a slight hesitation on an aggressive tip in but I'm holding off going nuts on a tuneup until I address some other issues. Drives great, starts and idles great. I got the electric choke version.
You need to move your pump rod so it won’t do that.

AVS guy here. Fantastic carb. Easy, convenient access for multiple tune changes if needed. But, agree. Die cast aluminum is a very poor choice with today’s fuel. It transfers too much heat, which boils and vaporizes the gas. A one inch wooden spacer pretty much eliminates that issue. But, a composite body carb is far superior with today’s gas. Regardless, of carburetor. Rerouting your fuel to the tank is a huge improvement with today’s gas. You have to do everything possible, to keep it cool as possible.
