Yeah, this is the biggest problem- asking a sixteen year old counter jockey to use a parts BOOK, or cross-reference a part number and use some deductive reasoning... not much help, I know; I'm just venting. GO to the parts store, look for the oldest guy there, and hope for the best. (I still have some older NAPA/Echlin parts books- you used to be able to buy them yourself; might be worth checking into) If you have the part number you should be able to check status/order it online; more than once I've had an "unavailable" part turn out to be in stock locally. End of old man rant.
