Can someone confirm for me that a stock valve body from a 904 will work in a 727 ?

Yes they are completely interchangeable as long as they are closely from the same era. You couldn't use an early 60s 904 in a later 727 for example.......or a 904 either for that matter. There may be other variables as well, but as a general rule, they are the same.

Did that convolute it up enough? lol

Damn, thats news to me! I thought they even had a different footprint! cool.

make sure you use the correct parking rod in the transmission.......

If I 'member right there is one screw on the 904 body that isn't used in the 727 or some such

Across the back row of bolts on the valve body...the 727 has 3 and the 904 only uses 2....aftermarket valve bodies eliminate the middle bolt.

I once used a 727 VB in a 904 and ran into 1 issue. The back row where there's 3 bolts has one offset differently between the 2 transmissions. The main halves of the VB have the hole elongated but the spacer plate between them may be only drilled for one or the other. In my case I took the VB apart and elongated that hole, reassembled it and it worked fine

I know I'm digging up an older thread, but I am planning on swapping my 1975 904 VB into my 1968 727 for neutral safety switch use and partial throttle kick down. I just read about the hole in the plate that needs to be elongated. How did you do it fishy68? Rat tail file?

My car is a 75, so either I will use my 904 VB in the 727, or purchase another VB (727 with partial kick down) OR... I make changes to the current 68 VB in the 727 so that it will utilize the theee prong Switch rather than the one post variety and forego the p kick down.

I used a miniature die grinder that I bought at Harbor Freight but any die grinder with a small diameter bit will work and you could even use a rat tail file. It's pretty thin but it's hard so it'll take some elbow grease if you use a file
