69 Couger Eliminator (Not Mine)

-
Had a buddy that went from a new 67 auto GTX, to a new Hemi 4 speed 69 roadrunner and then into a new Cougar, never saw a smile on His face in that Cougar ! :)

I like 1st generation Cougars also
I didn't see many Eliminators in the early 70's
Don't mean to hijack this conversation, but did the Eliminators come factory w/ battery in trunk?

They also made a few Dan Gurney Trans Am editions and I believe those had the Boss motors, 429 and 302's, not sure what years, seems like 67/68/69 maybe, shoulda googled before responding.

IIRC the Gurney editions were 428 powered, except for a few that came with a 427. The 69 Eliminator was available with the Boss 302, only a small number were built, and the Boss 429 was rumored to be an option, but IDK if any did in fact make it into production. All Boss 429 Mustangs were modified by Kar Kraft in Michigan to make room for the massive engine, I expect that any Cougar would have required similar mods as the platform was basically the same.

Eliminators were always like the grail cougar when I was younger. (had friends that had 1st gen cougars)
Its sad they never really took off like thier mustang cousin. It looks like they are holding their own in the market now though.

I have a friend who owns more than a dozen 67 Cougars, a couple of them are race cars, a few other friends had 67's and 68's, mostly 390 powered GT's. Been tempted by a recently advertised 68 for sale locally, owned by the same family for 40 years.

I had a chance to buy a 69 Eliminator in 1976 and it was a 428 4 speed yellow and black, 12,000 miles for $1200. State farm would not insure me at 17 years old so I bought my first AAR for a $1000 instead. I still think it's a really cool car. I think it's a Mustang chassis just a different body.

AAR for 1000, damm, that was My first New car, 1 of 9 from what I hear, FM3 Panther Pink, 4 speed, black interior. One hell of a car, my buddy had a 69 hemi RR, the AAR could give him all he could handle for about 3 gears! Loved that car.

Way back in the mid 70's I had a cousin who owned an orange AAR with an auto trans. I never was fortunate enough to ride in that one, but I heard plenty of stories about it.

I like them, for a Ford...
Stands out WAY more than "what? another Mustang?" If the one for sale doesn't have rust issues, that is a way cool car to jump into the "hobby" with, and the 4 speed AND a 428CJ is a HUGE plus, especially the fun factor!

or, for 100 bucks less
