Got the demon ready for paint B5 Not sure how its going to go. Havent sprayed single stage paint for some time. Also the compressor I got doesn't seam to want to keep up. Even with an HVLP gun. But have to get it done so I can get it sold.

Use the air control knob, on the bottom of the handle, to slow down the air flow. That way you will use less CFM and, hopefully, allow the compressor more time to produce enough air for continuous use. Take your time. Allow at least 20-30 mins between coats, 3 coats would be good. Depends on how much paint you have.

With single stage don't worry about flowing a "wet" coat until the final pass. Not sure if you plan on wet sanding (since you plan to sell it), but tread very lightly with SS paint. 1200-1500 grit at least.

You got this!

Better roll in a second air compressor (beg borrow or steal) and Tee it into your existing compressor so you can get more air volume. Single stage paint takes more air to atomize it than the newer basecoat clearcoat colors.

Lots of problems come along from not having good enough air supply. More heat, more moisture in the air line dripping out at your gun, oil comes through from the air compressor when it gets hot too. Fisheyes from water and oil in your air supply . . .

5 hp 220 volt, 2 stage pump on a 60 gallon minimum air tank. This is a baseline air compressor you should be using for spray painting cars.

Could even rent one from your local rent-a-center just for the spray job.

Good luck . . .

I got this 110 v compressor from harbor freight. Suppose to be the best one they have. I have a 220 huge compressor in storage. Have to wait until elec. company hooks up my elect. line. Have sprayed many many base/ clear jobs. Its a metallic paint. So wet sanding is out of the question. Ive tried it in the past & comes out blotchy.

Not if enough clear coat.
Just make sure metallics are even.
Spray final base coat side to side. Up and down each panel and same pressure then your clearcoat is your savior.....sorry
Thought your talking base coat clear coat.

You have one thing going for you, that is you don't have the hood on the car. Makes it a lot easier not having to keep that whole front end wet.

yea base coat is sooo much easier than acrylic enamel

Well its done. All im going to say is that I will never spray acrylic enamel again. LMAO Got it to flow with no orange peel but couldn't get the metallic to lay right. Then got the metallic to lay right but couldn't couldn't get to flow right. The compressor not keeping up didn't help. So do I want to spend more money & get a clear for it or just leave it alone & put the stripes on it ? (when its dry) Got one run in the lt quarter but I think the stripe will cover it. The hood & cowl are going to be flat black to match the stripes. The gun kept spitting some sh*t out. Not sure whats up with that

As soon as I get the stripes on, paint the dash & get that in, paint the hood & cowl & some other small things it will be up for sale if anyone knows anyone who is looking

DEMON UPDATE Not happy with the way it turned out so im going to bite the bullet & get some base/clear. Ran the furnace at 75 all weekend. Went & got some base/ clear today. Sanded it with 400 today & laid a few coats of base. Ill clear it tonight or in the morning.

Is that PPG 2306 from 1971? Mine is getting painted soon and I see B5 for 70' is a different shade. I've been looking at different photos trying to decide on what shade of B5, 70' or 71'

Good man. The new owner will appreciate the effort. And I'm sure you would have had some reservations about selling it with a sketchy paint job.

your right ive never left any job like that leave my garage. In the end it cost more to be cheep lesson learned

I am soon approaching the time to paint my Duster. If I may ask what was your initial decision to go with the single stage? I will not be going with a metallic as I am going FJ5 with my car. I am still trying to decide what I should go with for paint brand and also if I should attempt to paint it at home. I know I am going to do my jambs, trunk and engine bay just not sure about the outside of the car. I have not painted a car since 2000 and it was base clear.

Single stage is cheaper paint is like a lot of other things you get what you pay for. Not saying single stage paint is bad but if its metallic you are limited to what you can do with it.
