So I'm on this new kick that I want a swivel seat in my car but I can use some opinions here.

I'm thinking of using a van or RV swivel base as the start and obviously it will have to cut down and modified to fit the car but my main concern is:
Do you guys think an Rv or van seat base is as strong as the original car seat tracks are.

I don't want to compromise safety

I've had several air brain ideas in the past - that was a dumb idea - started doing it then that was a dumb idea - finished it good idea -- which will yours be who knows -- good luck

Everything had to pass crash standards, right? I would guess that trucks and vans would be at least as safe as a standard passenger car seat. It was emissions where trucks and vans got a break.

Some of the older big monte carlos had them too , I almost bought one once.

Funny you should mention the Monte Carlo.A friend of mine put a set of those I one he had back when. The base off of a set of those with a set of pro cars would probably be the most viable option.

I had a friend that had one in a Malibu. Can't recall what year. He was in our Auto mechanic class in H.S. you don't want to know what he thought that seat was for or he told us what he used it for anyhow.:BangHead:

I have this in my 59 Ply. It takes some thinking to get used to it. My son really liked it when he had hernia surgery

It’s probably not safe by today’s standards but a newer style may be?

I installed 73 Chevelle swivel buckets in a 71 340 4 sp Demon back in 79...also owned a 59 Imperial Coupe with swivel seats.

Yes, I know for a fact that the 2 door Chevy Lagunas had them. Swivel Bucket Seats

High School buddy had one of those. Looked like a regular bucket seat, the base sat low you would have never known it was a swivel.

But will it have room to spin? The buckets in my 71' dart are really close to the drive shaft tunnel.

A lot of Oldsmobiles used them too.

My brother built some nice swivel pedestals for his 57 chevy. way i see it,if they are built solid, have secure latches there should be no safety concern. Seat belts keep you in the car, not the seats.
