massive reconfiguration time again.

well the kid on the techline said pretty much starting from the ground up and from the primary circuit on back.. it's all making sense that's for sure.. I have a lot of different direction to go of course with even another change and step up Springs but I wouldn't be surprised if it wasn't just tightening that secondary door even more. That's one thing the Edelbrock didn't have... well I guess they did some kind of weighted door...
yes, the Demon is and the Eddy Thunder series are copying the TQ air door, which was very successful if tuned properly. Also, check at some point check and see if you have any adjustment on how far that air door comes open, that's key as well. I think the Demon carbs will work great once tuned.

Yes the air door is spring loaded and you can put more or less tension on the spring. Most are saying to put more tension on the spring and not let it open. I may need much more tension..
I'm pretty sure the secondary door is spring loaded. Here's a full-out picture you can see the spring wrapped around the rod...

the spring adjust how fast the door comes open. But, there may be a way you can adjust how FAR it comes open as well. That's critical as well. When I was running TQ's years back, they had a tab that you could bend (it was slotted to bend) that controlled how far the door opened, and the spring controlled how quickly it opened.
 
Tomorrow calls for rain but Monday and Tuesday I don't have to work as of now and I should be able to dedicate some serious time this problem... First thing Monday morning I want to go get new oil.. I'm sure I changed it last spring and I do 7 quarts in an 8 quart pan... About a dozen passes at the track and three or four hundred miles. It doesn't have a lot on it but I like to change it once a year....

Honestly it seems like there's a lot of room for air to get around that door even when it's closed.. I'm pretty sure there's only the tension not a how far can go adjustment... remember I don't think this motor is going to suck the whole 1250 CFM LOL..

I need to look at a demon carb.... now you have my interest... LOL. I'm betting the design of the door is molded to start the syphoning of the back barrels. That's why the eddys and TQ's have funky shaped air doors. Vacuum pulls the door open, but the door design in pulling fuel rapidly. Maybe I'm just too old school and I can't leave the TQ design. Maybe the Demon is completely different. I just can't imagine it working differently.

There's only one rod that goes over the top and that actually works the choke flap. I know this how it's conveniently ran right across the little door to take out the metering rods and the little teeny itty-bitty clip right over the door that needs to come off to do it...:BangHead:..

I like the different just too much... it looked different it seemed to operate a little different and I haven't seen a lot of them so I had to have it.. it has had some Sparks of greatness and I do feel once it's tuned correctly I should be happy.
 
That link to the secondaries is 100% Holley. Just remove the link and wire the secondaries shut. I've seen guys not do that and the secondaries open and then don't shut. That will fill your shorts right quick.

I think you're on the right track. Get the primaries divorced from the secondaries and tune them up.

Yes. And then wire the secondaries shut. It's worse on a vacuum secondary Holley because there is a similar rod connected to the secondary throttle shaft, but it doesn't open the secondaries. It's there to shut them. When they open with no way to shut them, it's a wild ride. BTDT.

I really hate pumping my throttle to see the motion with the bowls full of fuel and I'm not going to start it. Just dumping fuel in there and letting it set.. from the little action that I did put on it it did look like those rods just force against the spring loaded doors to open it not to close it.. you really got a thing Edelbrock and thermoquad not Holley when you're looking at this. The only Holley thing on this is the secondary Jets and that messed up 45 degree angle down on the fuel Boss...

one clip per carb and the fuel pump rod is disconnected....
 
Any progress today.
no progress today they predicted rain all day but over here just was on and off but not good enough to take the car out by a long shot. Tomorrow morning I'm going to meet and greet with a customer and then go get some oil for an oil change and give her one try in the afternoon with the secondaries disconnected and see where I'm at that way...
 
I'm not far from him and the weather was whacked all day. Just rediculous.
You should be giving me the old two steps up here the step down there tighten the spring loosen that night hold your left ear to the butterfly twinkle your toes on the accelerator and presto everything's working absolutely perfect!!..

Not really, it was an honest question about progress.
Looking at the plugs you're getting close, it's probably a primary jet change and or metering rod away.
I appreciate that it's better than saying nothing at least it gives me food for thought and something to try..
Without trying the primaries only I'm thinking it may be the pump shot. They have a bunch of different nozzles that are mostly bigger and they do talk about bigger motors with bigger camshaft needing more possibly. Of course like I said no local Parts whatsoever... then of course nobody likes to order from Summit unless they have a hundred bucks and can I get free shipping..
 
I was thinking pump shot too.
is the multiple holes on the pump arm like on the AFB. I believe the are 3 or 4 holes to adjust the shot.
