440 under car headers need advice.

For the life of me I don't understand why the headers topic gets so beat to death or people want to re-invent the wheel.

Buy a set of headers that are made for your application and fit properly. They are readily available. If you are building a big block dart and you are concerned about saving a couple hundred bucks on something as critical as headers (that trust me, you want to last and NEVER change again) this might not be the build for you!

Then let me try to enlighten you. This board (and others) are full of stories of people who ponied up and bought the high-dollar headers, and still had trouble making them fit, and had to beat on them. The problem is that body & frame, and engine placement, tolerances often exceed the minimal clearance available in a BB A-body. And production headers are not custom-massaged for those inevitable differences. A point also recently made here and elsewhere.
Also, not everyone has your assumed John Force-sized budget for their play toy. $800-1K for some people IS a big deal, especially if they're putting the project together one piece at a time as money permits.

TII for example tells you where the engine needs to sit for the headers to fit optimally.

Again, trust me from doing the big block Abody (440RB) thing 5X over you want TTI or Schumacher headers and you want them coated inside and out. I've used other options and regretted it every time.

69 HDK 440 Dart with under chassis TTi headers and HDK power steering. No pounding here.

Bob Mazzolini semi-fenderwell for that HP level. No problem with power steering and you can change the starter with the headers in place.
