AMD discontinuing Mopar parts

-
Holy ****! That’s a lot of stuff. Could be the difference between a car being saved or going to the crusher.

Mopar guys are cheapskates. They don't like to buy anything. I don't blame them. Mopar stuff probably only accounted for a fragment of their sales.

When you have guys chopping up perfectly fine cars that have nicer paint than my own... yeah, you got some pos cheap skates all right. No wonder...
Not all of their stuff was that good, but over half was at least.

^^^^^^^^ I think a combination of a few things. Overpriced, Low demand, cheapskates.

Lower the price 25% for a year, see what happens... They might be surprised

Sad for the hobby and for the cars that could have had a chance...….

I agree. People cutting up perfectly good vehicles for nothing. That's one reason I just ended up with this Falcon. He refused to sell it to a couple of different buyers who were both going to hack it up for parts for two doors. He knew I would fix it up and drive it as is so he basically gave me the car. We're going to enjoy it.

Some of it looks like consolidation too. Like they're not discontinuing full E-body quarters but they are discontinuing skins, probably a reflection of most people using full quarters nowadays. Looks like they're keeping 70-71 Duster fenders but not anything 72+, market is probably more for the 70/71 cars with more spares available for the later cars, plus the tendency for people to use later cars to clone earlier ones.

I'm sure some of it is the current world trade market with tariffs on steel and import form overseas cutting into profit margins.

They figured out that there 50% more Chevy guys out there. That's why their parts are so cheap. The manufacturers make thousands of parts instead of hundreds.

Save all of your crying until the day you go to buy it from the guys who bought up the remaining stock and resells it. It'll be as much as the NOS stuff is now. $$$$$$$

One of reasons I bought a Dart was that it was affordable to restore, I really wanted a 70 Roadrunner, but those parts and cars are priced outta sight for the average Joe.

I'm tellin you, you said a mouthful there. A bodies used to be way more affordable than they are now.

I wonder what they're reasoning is behind this?
Sure, I could see some things that weren't moving very fast being discontinued, but that is a lot of items.
I thought that the first items to go would be full quarters and not skins.
So basically, if you have a '67 to '69 Barracuda, you are S.O.L. for most exterior body panels.
And that goes for a lot of Mopars, there is not a very wide selection anymore.

People will now hoard the discontinued items and make a lot of money on the markup because they will be deemed to be in the same category as "Modern N.O.S.'' reproductions.
I wonder what AMD is going to do with the tooling?

This will mean a few things to the hobby:
-The project cars will plummet in price.
-More original parts will increase in price.
-Interest in the Mopar hobby will decrease significantly.
-People will gravitate to more mainstream cars like Chevy or Ford, because they can get parts for them.

Suddenly, It's back to 1995..........

I bet the stuff that is on sale, is the stuff they will not be making any more. Beside the 67 69 Barracuda rear quarter panels. I think they just did a run and have a lot of them in stock.
I know for sure that I was told from AMD is 63 to 65 B body stuff is all done, 70 71 Duster rear quarters done, and 73 and Duster fenders done (but the fenders he said they have a lot of them).
There are not making anything new beside what already in the works and I believe that is 66 67 B Body stuff. They are done with anything new for mopar so no 67 to 69 Barracuda fenders

Ya but everything is more in life now. Still the cheapest best car out there. Just say. A few models are worth a lot but for the most part still cheap.

So do they actually make any of their parts?
Yes, they do.
They design and manufacture the tooling and dies in the U.S.A. and then send them to China to be used in the stamping, coating, and packaging of the panels and then they are shipped to the U.S.A. for distribution.
They say ''Made In The U.S.A.'' on the boxes because of the loophole of the tooling and design were made in the U.S.A., but the actual product is MANUFACTURED in China.

Well, this just set the Mopar hobby back 20 years. The parts will still be out there, but back to dealing with cheap, ill-fitting stuff; and even more decent projects getting crushed because the parts availability isn't there. If I had the extra cash right now I'd buy everything I could for the projects waiting their turn in my shop, but the wallet can't handle that right now.

We were putting in an order and the sale ended, did not get in. Bummer

It seems that once a set of dies is made other than the cost of storage space, there is not much expense to keeping a die set on the shelf. It’s not like someone is going to take a die that stamped out Barracuda panels and change that die into one stamping out Honda parts..
But who knows what drives decisions?
Maybe one of the other stamping suppliers like Sherman will buy them, that is 100% speculation.

Looks like they are letting the beancounters make all the business decisions. This happens all the time, and it might help their "bottom line", short-term. Who wants to bet the company goes tits-up in a few years?
