I'm considering putting cut outs on my 67 Barracuda.
For when I go down towards Atlanta and want to have some fun.

I'm thinking electric operated.

What do you all think ?

I think they sound like total ***. Don't shoot the messenger. You did ask.

I am no expert, but my son just put some on his SRT. Had them done at a fancy muffler shop and paid quite a bit but they did a really nice job I think I would want some short straight pipes behind the cut-offs Maybe 8 inch to 1 ft long just to take some of the rasp out of them but I could see where they would be fun if used with discretion

I wouldn't shoot you Rusty!

I don't have thin skin, and I don't take it personally.

Well.......I said that and I think about it and there is ONE way I think I might like them and NOBODY ever does it like this. If they were installed RIGHT at the header collector, they would probably sound badass. But people always install them further back and the sound from open headers gets lost somehow.

I will certainly think abt doing that if I decide to do cut outs.
Thanks Rusty.

I think it would mess with the tune and have no power gains unless you tuned the engine to running with the cutouts in the open position. And, add turbulence to an otherwise smooth exhaust system.

They may effect your ground clearance. When mounted behind the headers it puts in the middle of the car. They were on my 73 Challenger and they scraped on everything:eek:

I had them installed, sounded really loud and authoritative when opened. Had key fob for quick open and close. The novelty wore off in a few months.
Now they 'tic" with a ratty (as in NOT good) exhaust leak when closed. Theres no adjustment on mine.
I will probably eliminate them when I find the time.

Most of them are stainless steel. Is there a problem welding stainless to non stainless pipes? I have done a lot of welding, but I have never welded stainless. I would assume I would just have to buy stainless welding wire??

Mine are SS, yes it was an issue, had to get a guy who was equipped to handle that, not sure what or how it was accomplished.

No problem at all. mig stainless easily with er 70s 6

With this ^^^^^^^^^^kind of free flowing exhaust system , why would you even worry about adding them ?
Mine looks just like it/them , except they are 3 1/2'' all the way , with no cut outs , and home made muffs. , it s loud ,but not irritating to me , maybe passers by ------------

I run some old school manual three bolt ones on the track. Only because my exhaust system is 23 years old muffler shop bends. Even though the exhaust is 3" into 3" ultra flows and 2.5" pipes the cutouts are still .1 faster on the track with a 600ish HP small block.

The closer to the header and the more power you have the better they will sound.

I think I pissed my golf partner off, as he asked me to help him put his cutouts with solenoids on his El Camino SS
I said no take that junk to a muffler shop I don’t believe in them, and they are juvenile. I think he stayed mad at me for months.

I have the manual 3 wing nut ones on my duster may have opened them a few times the car runs the same numbers at the track weather opened or closed..but the car does sound badass flying down the track with them open:lol::lol::lol:
