Today's Aerosol's are crap

Is anyone else having issues with aerosol products? I swear, almost every can of paint, primer, gasket dressing, electrical contact cleaner, WD40 etc. ends up going bad with an almost full can after a couple of sprays or uses. I store this stuff in a climate controlled area.

This morning, i picked up a $24 can of weld-through primer. Got two sprays out of it before it quit spraying.

I have never experienced these problems before the last couple of years. Anyone in that industry know what has possibly changed?
 
Yes...3M undercoating , VHT high temp paint, rustoleum high build...same deal clogged...tried new tips but no fix...
 
Sound like me with Silicone. Get one use and the head drys solid with 90% full tube and no way to clean the dried crap out.
 
I keep having problems with WD-40 cans losing their pressure lately.

I Like getting my spray paint at PPG because the nozzles are swappable - so if one clogs up, just grab the nozzle off another can!
 
I have a small glass jar with Lacquer thinner . When I'm done spraying whatever I remove nozzle and drop in jar for next time. Keps the material from hardening in the nozzle.

I am not having nozzle clog problems. I have changed them out and that doesn't help. There is something wrong with the propellant, the bag inside of the can, or the valve that the nozzle plugs into. Very frustrating, especially since the prices of aerosol products seem to be higher as well.
 
Probably cheap nozzles that leak out the psi in can. Try removing them to see if it helps. But agreed they all suck now.
 
I do the same as Kendog, putting nozzles in lacquer thinner, till I use the can again.
Also when I start to use a aerosal can, I shake the hell out of it, to make sure everything is mixed up, and shake it while using it also. They seem to work better that way.
I get very few cans that won't spray, that way.

100% yes. I have had a ton of failed cans lately. not nozzle clog, or even low psi, but something with the mech down in the neck. full cans dead while new, or nearly new.

As mentioned shaking the crap out of the can before use will make a big difference.
Turning them upside down and a short spray till no more paint comes out is important.
I have lots of spray and don't usually have much of a problem.
The ones I do have problems with, I puncture the can, let it air off and drain the rest into a baby food jar or similar.
Then I can throw it my detail gun and use it.

Only cut the tip size to fit a smooth shank drill or an old moto tool bit in it after use.
Doing this made my RTV's last all the way to the end.

Store bought aerosols could have been
Made 2 years earlier.
I set all recent bought aerosol cans
Upside down at room temp for s couple days. Been helping situation for most part
And heavy shaking before and during use
 
I get mad when a can of rust penetrant is not completely empty but it quits squirting!!

The real answer is IF you are spraying any auto primer/paint, get the real stuff and use your compressor/gun.

I can't speak for where spray paint is bottled / canned, but i do know other aerosol products are canned here in the US. Heck, right near the Dayton Ohio airport, there is a plant. (Spectrum brands)
 
Just the other day I was arguin' with WD40 that was more than half full. I was thinking of gathering up some nozzles, and attempting to glue/ epoxy/ other them into some sort of "universal" fitting (like a plastic pipe nipple) so I could inject CO2 or some other pressure source back into the can, maybe pump it back up and maybe clear the obstruction. I am thinking you do not want to use air, as that will deteriorate the contents, generally

For me starting fluid is a big "fail."
 
I can give PBlaster and SeaFoam Deep Creep as prime examples. Especially Deep Creep. It says RIGHT ON THE CAN "Even sprays upside down". HORSE HOCKEY! It will barely spray right side up sometimes. Really pisses me off because the stuff ain't cheap. I even called the company and THEY KNOW of the problem. I was told it "might" be resolved in the next YEAR.
 
Yep I had one the other day. It was rustoleum flat black. As soon as I started spraying its started spitting and spuddering and was dead nothing else would come out. The can Is completely full just no aerosol left in the can. They probably cut down on how much aerosol they put in the can to cut costs. Seems to be the problem with everything these days. Cut cost and raise prices! Smh
 
I think the EPA clowns cracked down on the chemicals previously used as propellants. Now whatever we are stuck with leaks out, like the tiny molecules of helium leaking right through the material of balloons.
Now I buy WD40 in the metal one gallon can and pour it into a reusable spray bottle, so it no longer relies on aerosol.
I gave up on Mopar Performance engine paints. They were crap years ago.
 
Another fun fact. The bottom of can with ball inside is rounded so paint settles on the outside edge of the can. If the can is shaken enough the ball should roll around the outside edge easily stirring all sediment to prevent clogs.

The point of shaking the can is to get the particles on the bottom of the can to remerge with the carrier solvent. I hold the can around horizontal and shake the can so that the liquid hits the bottom of the can. If there is a metal ball or bearing in the can, then you have to rotate the can, so that the bearing can hit every section of the bottom.
