I’ve read on here about chrome wrap for fiberglass bumpers or whatever. Well I have chrome wheel caps on my US Mags slotted mags. Pieces of crap are rusting and they’re only eight months old. Anyhow, I painted them silver and I am not happy with the results. Would it be possible to wrap the wheel caps or center caps with a chrome wrap?

The chrome wrap vinyl can't handle tight curves or sharp edges, I was told by a professional installer. A mag wheel cap is a pretty tight radius 3D curvature.

I see what you're saying. Maybe it could be done in two pieces. One for the end (maybe glued?), and one for the circumference. I guess it couldn't hurt to try, for $7.

Wish I remembered where I saw this on TV, but there is some spray on process that puts a chrome finish on plactic. I think it uses an electrostatically applied paint (?) And water ( of all things) but the demo I saw it was fast and easy and the results were amazing.

Hope this triggers someone else's memory

Had another thought.

What about silver leaf, (like gold leaf but silver) And some clear gloss.

OK, now you got me thinking. Being they are steel you can zinc plate them, polish them up and use automotive clearcoat on them to keep them from corroding.

Simple way out is strip the new silver paint off them with paint stripper. Shine them up with fine steel wool. Then clearcoat them so they don't rust.

Did this with chrome Semi tractor steel wheels on the rear tandems, they were slightly rusted and cleaned up nice and held up fine.

Thanks for all of the ideas. I'm going to try the chrome film, and if that doesn't work out, I'll try the Alsa Chrome. I searched "Nikki Chrome" on youtube, got some kind of musician??

I didn't realize it until I sprayed the caps silver, but the chrome makes the wheel appear shinier. The chrome reflects the light onto the wheel, the silver paint makes the wheel appear duller.

The "start up spray on chrome kit" from Future Chrome (with the various chemical treatments and still no proof of UV stability) is ONLY $22,000.00.

Hey, I'll take two!

Thanks for that video, Idaho. I'm going to try doing my Duster's 'glass bumpers in the future. That car isn't far enough along yet. It sure looks like a challenge, but I'm up for it. The caps should be good practice. They're on my driver pick up.

I would think A body bumpers should be easier than the modern molded ones but a practice run or two would likely be good!

here a guy uses gloss black spray paint base, then distilled water and a wetting agent them the 2 part spray, and a final rinse of distilled water as well as a blow dry. He says about $150 for the chemicals from these guys Spray Chrome He also stated he had grey spots on his unprotected legs for weeks after this stunt with no PPE except rubber gloves. As with any reflective coating, the base must be ultra smooth and uniform or else it will look like silver painted sandpaper. The link does not show the 2 part spray bottle but it may be available. Play it at 3x speed or else youll see 5 minutes of spraying a part to death with the same bottle of solution as with most of these spray chrome videos.

Impressive. With 2k clear likely tougher than a wrap.

Eastwood has a spray chrome that they are now offering that looks like the Alsa chrome. I have had good luck with Eastwood stuff so you may want to try that!

I did my console in wrap around the top edges. The woodgrain decal is from DMT.

That's the one. I have a cd they sent me a few years ago when I lived in Reno and was supposed to attend one of their seminars in Vegas.
