Hughes Engines - Cams at the ICHSM

Hughes engines has recently released for sale a couple of slant six cams and drop in oversized valves. The valves are 3/8 in stems and 1.71 intake and 1.5 exhaust IIRC.

I stopped by the Hughes Engine Booth at the ICH Swap Meet.
They had a slant six cam on display with their other engine offerings.

When I inquired to speak with someone at Hughes that had knowledge of the Hughes Slant Six cam I was introduced to Dave Hughes.

I asked about the tight lash specifications on that cam and Dave's reply was that the lash is tighter because they were wanting to eliminate the typical slant six clatter.
He also talked about the reverse dual profile and putting more duration on the intake, much of the same stuff that Doug D used to talk about
He also commented that like other mechanical cams, one could loosen the lash 2 to 4 thousands and potentially pick up performance. He also commented they have sold several
of the slant six cams and have not any complaints or issues.

He also commented , and this is the important one that they use all Mopar developed cam lobes and he then went into the Mopar 904 lifter being able to support a faster ramp
than cam lobes designed around Chevy lifters.
He also commented that he has many more lobes than what is currently offered on the slant six cams, so if someone is looking for a slant cam other than what shows on the site they can contact him he would do his best to go through what he has to come up with a Mopar lobe that matches what is being requested.

Throughout the conversation Dave H seems genuinely interested in the slant and was happy to stand there and talk to me about it.

Evidently, Dave is the type that's better in person. A lot of people are like that. He seems somewhat short and irritated on the phone......though I guess I could irritate anybody. lol

He's right about the .903 lifter diameter. Slants need all the edge they can get, because of their poor cylinder head......at least for a naturally aspirated engine. Forced induction brings in a new set of rules. I am glad they made a new line of cams, but they are still tiny small. I was hoping for something a little bigger. I am sure they would custom grind something.

Good to "see" you again. Hope yall are doing well. Tell the wife we said hay.
