I pulled apart my car for initial suspension work and noticed (after going through everything else) that I’m missing the adjuster locking plate!

I don’t believe this is included in brake hardware kits... does anyone know where I could get my hands on one for this car?

It’s the 10 inch brake drums.

Thanks!

Daniel

Also the top retaining plate under the springs is upside down. Let me look might have some

What year is it & car type?

Some front drum applications did not have the auto-adjust feature.

The star wheel and the adjuster lever comes in the hardware kits...

Someone has removed all of the self-adjuster parts. In it's present configuration it can be manually adjusted but will not hold it's adjustment. You need to locate all of the missing hardware and return it to self-adjusting.

They will hold adjustment without the self adjusting parts. More than once I have had what was originally sold and delivered as a police vehicle in my bay. Last I recall was a 88or9 Crown Victoria. Those were delivered without self adjusting. Fleet maintenance was responsible for brake setting.

This will not hold adjustment. Manual set-ups have "coarse" teeth on the adjuster and a different lower spring that stops the star from rotating.

This is power brake car if that makes a difference. But I was expecting a locking plate regardless.

The brake shoes are on backwards ! The longer lining goes on the rear, the shorter shoe goes on the front. Just a FYI.

How about one of you guys that knows so much about this, posting up a picture of what the proper way it should look.

This is rear brakes, right side but setup is exactly the same.

Have u consider swapping up to front disc? Way easier to work on an none of that hardware like ur drums. [see Mopar Action Aug 2018 pg,67] Get everything from a salvage yard, not from any of those super expensive aftermarket stores. NOTE: If u find a full size Polara, Monaco, Fury, Charger, New Yorker, grab them! They come with the huge almost 12 inch rotors. The calipers an pads are the same size as A B C E F M J Body ones. I like the slider style. I have this set-up on my 75 Scamp. Its the caliper bracket that's different. Take everything! Use the old calipers as cores for new ones. JC Whitney have the huge rotors.

I think there is a swap kit out there, where u can keep your stock knuckles and put the caliper, caliper bracket and rotor on them. That was like 20 yrs ago.. I think.
I don't think it will work with 14 inch wheels. Life is great with 4 wheel disc!

Parts showed up this week and I’ll be able able get it all buttoned up. It’s pretty awesome at how fast it goes when you learn to do it on one side already.

I replaced my rear drums, shoes and springs today too. Was nearly 60F here. Felt great to work in the garage with the doors open and tunes cranking. :) Just gotta connect the rear e-brake cables to the main cable and the old girl will finally have a complete brake system.

Be well man,
Pat
