Oil filter relocation kit

-
Having notched the k, would you do it a second time if the block off plate kit was avail for a decent price? I agree the block off plates are priced ridiculous, but if I can have them manufactured for say, $30, would it be worth saving the hassle of cutting and welding on the k?

I personally wanted to have the factory spin on filter if possible, just to eliminate having to locate a remote filter in the already cramped a body. It probably wouldn't have affected my decision because I'm okay with cutting stuff :)

OK, i tend to agree about anything would be better than a remote filter, but cutting up the k frame also doesn't seem real appealing either. thanks for the opinon! i'll have to see how tight it is on our b-body and go from there. If it's also a PITA...then our mainstream offerings will probably just be the remote filter (still spin off style)

that's correct. The center hole is the inlet. If you follow the hoses on below TTI picture you can see the the upper connection is the outlet and the bottom one is the return.

Wanting to make sure. So looking at the block of the engine... The bottom hose (to the block) is the oil pumping from the block into the oil filter. Then the top hose (to the block) is the "clean" oil from the filter back into the engine block?

Or do I have this reversed?

Can anyone give exacts as to when you take the allen bolts from the block for the relocation lines what size the npt to an fittings are? Im trying to get this relocation wrapped up.

The pipe plugs take a 5/16 allen, the thread size is 1/4 NPT(pipe thread). You can get whatever fitting you need to go from NPT to AN.

In a dodge ram forum i read that someone had 35psi after oil filter relocation another gentlman claimed to have drilled and tapped them larger i was under the impression oil pressure was really made with the pump amd bearings?
This maybe my true question here.. My relocation mount is 10an. 1/4 npt to 10an seems to be a very small fitting to a large fitting and possibly restricting should i worry about a drop in pressure because of that restriction? i always thought oil pump (im using a melling oil pump with the 65 spring i believe it was) and bearings (i had everything rebuilt) is where oil pressure is made?

Sounds like you have the lines on the filter base backwards. I accidentally made this same mistake on the Scamp, same result.

Your thinking is fine. The pump is the source and where the bearings are is the drop. To much clearance and pressure drops. But the bearings are not the soul spot for woe and troubles. You can have fine pressure readings in the galleys leading up and around the engine but not at the bearings. Oil pressure readings are taken at the sender... up top of the block... far far away from the bearings. Bearings can be looked at as a controlled leak.

Does anyone have low pressure issues with remote oil filter?
None, zero, nope. Filter relocation kit on 360 LA’s for years, also on a 03 Dakota -V6 for years.

Replace the hoses every 2 years with new clamps.

Sooo, is there a kit available or is the home mechanic cobbling up something better. Consider this question on by from a new guy.

How did you guys do it?
If you home cobbled it, show me, (ummm - US!) how it’s done.

I myself wandered here thinking about my ‘18 Ram and the wife’s 16 Durango recent oil changes I did and how bad the oil filter location sucked with the air pan in the way. I’m saying to myself while I was under there, this **** sucks I could do better than this crap!

And so here I am!
LMAO

I havent gotten my parts yet but this is what i ordered
2x- 1/4npt to 10AN fittings(kinda hard to find)
2x- 10AN ORB(o-ringboss) to 10AN
4x- straight 10AN fittings
3ft- 10AN stainless hose
I already had the block off plate and remote mount from stanke motorsports

for what this is worth. I used the 1/4npt to 10an fittings and mine leaked like crazy. I could not get the threads to really hold so it leaked. I tried putting a o-ring and it still leaked. I did use a 1/4npt piece of black pipe 3 inches long from home depot with a npt barb fitting and that worked best. so far it works. Bouchlion has the brass npt tubes that work as well.

Did you use the Teflon tape from my understanding your suppossed to wrap all but o ring boss fittings this it my first time using AN hoses and fittings but ima give it a shot they look cleaner than having the hose clamps i think.. Ill go with the barbs if i have too.. But thank you

TTI recommends using Milodon P/N 21560 remote filter kit with their blockoof plate. 24" stainless steel braided lines w/fittings. $183 at Summit.
Mancini lists a 90 degree oil adaptor #MM90FLTX for $169. Don't know if this will help or even fit.

6.1 going in a 69 Barracuda Fastback
I already had a QA1 K-Member and I didn't want to relocate the oil filter.
A little cutting, a little welding and a little black paint...

Brilliant! I have a QA1 in the box. Need to go see my Welding buddy as soon as I Get the motor mounts.

Thanks for a great idea.

Yes i did on both ends
Ok where did you get the barb fitting it seems that the regular an fitting is not going on right and will not hold i already have the npt 3in pipe looking for 1/4 to 5/8 barb that your mentioning

Picked up a set off ebay. Used for mocking up, fair price. Need to clean up the garage and get to measuring. Need a second set for my van now.

I don't know a lot about the new Hemi, but I do know a bit about remote oil filters. They all end up doing one thing. Leak. I'll be damned if I wouldn't do everything I could to keep from running one. Every one I've ever seen whether factory or aftermarket leaks at some point, from somewhere.
