Solid debris worn rubber and tire carcasses. I once did a road call along I-95 south of Melbourne the amount of tire debris on the side of the road was lets just say a lot.

Must be the same people who went after Frump. If the first thing you try to get rid of something doesn't work, then try something else!

Where's the hovercraft conversion?

I don't know about it polluting the atmosphere .But years ago I lived in a small apartment below a freeway interchange and the bart tracks the amount of black soot that built up on the window sills was nasty.

um, yes it does. “Non-exhaust particulate emissions”. Tire dust, brake dust, all that stuff comes off the car and goes into the air/environment. Some of it probably is small enough to be airborne, some would be too large and would end up on the ground. Which would then end up in runoff when it rains. So those tiny tire particles get everywhere and into everything- that’s pollution.

Not really that surprising though. You buy a brand new tire, drive on it, and then replace it when the tread is gone. Well, where do you think the tread went? It’s not magic, it went somewhere.

Only one study though, and they didn’t exactly explain the methodology of the test. Would be interesting to see their testing procedure and have follow up. They did say they’d follow up- “The Drive reached out to Emissions Analytics for an explanation of the testing methodology it used for its experiment, and we will update when we receive comment.”

I do think it’s kinda funny that people are surprised by this. We live in a closed system. A really BIG closed system, but a closed system nonetheless. So if we make a compound that takes 100 years to break back down into its components it’s gonna be around for 100 years somewhere. If it goes into the air then some poor sap will breathe it and it’ll spend part of that 100 years riding around in that poor saps lungs. If you don’t want it in your lungs, we probably shouldn’t put it into the air. Or at least try to keep the quantity low enough that the concentration isn’t an issue.
