Ever had a violent trans explosion because of failed 8/34 rear , I was lucky , but it didnt feel so at the time !-------3600 pound hemi , back in the day-
At the risk of sounding like a complete jerk...

That there is a combo I’d not ever run. 3600lbs. + HEMI + 8-3/4 = not good.

Subtract 800 lbs. powered by a small block (equals a lot less torque) equals longer life. Subtract more weight, longer life, foot braking, longer life... etc...

Everything has a failure point.
I’m not here to argue.

Yes!

The rear ends life is based on many factors. That is one of them. Strength of axles, how well it hooks and on what surface, size of components, strength of components, car weight and distribution of weight, power (Engine torque) trans gear ratio, rear gear ratio.

It is no secret this area falls under bigger is better. The 8-3/4 will only last so long under so much power. The DANA 60 is pretty much the last word in strength. There is also the aftermarket Ford 9.

Wouldn't it also depend on how well your tires hook up ?
yes ,14 and 16'' slicks did hook up a few times. We got to striping ring gears in the 8 3/4 , axles held up surprisingly well .
I twisted the summers brothers axles in aq 9'' ford bad enough that they were hell to get out , but never broke one.
