Need Help Correcting a Very Bad Habit

When I'm alone (don't read into that) I find myself swearing/cussing under my breath every time I drop something (which is becoming more frequent all the time). I can't say why or when this began, but I would like to eliminate that behavior from my repertoire. So far, I only catch myself after the deed is done.

Easy, when you catch yourself afterward flick your nose hard with your finger. Make it smart and make your eyes water. Do it every time.

It’s an old psychological trick that connects the unwanted habit to a conscious self-inflicted pusishment. Once the connection between the two is established in your mind, then the unwanted habit breaks because the action of the first becomes instantly connected to the reprisal preventing it from happening involuntarily.
 
I’m trying to do better with cursing. When you hear some talking and every other word is an f-bomb or whatever they just sound like a moron. I don’t want to be that guy
 
Had yourself checked for Carpal Tunnel lately?
 
I have this habit at work I dont do it at home I have children and have trained myself not around children "little pitchers have big ears" but at work or around other adults i find myself having a potty mouth.. lol its hard to break I have tried. But jas is 100 percent correct it makes you (me) sound like a moron.
 
Sleep
I find as I get older and less active, I tend to sleep a lot less. And this makes me edgy, short of patience.
They say laughter is the best medicine, so some years ago, I started laughing when I felt the tension rising. I'd rather have people thinking of me as the laughing moron, than the cursing moron.
More sleep or a good night's sleep, seems to take the edginess away.
 
In private no issue. go repent and all is well!

But if you think you might be using God's name in vain, well ask yourself; What is God's name? He has a name and we are admonished to know it and it ain't LORD.not Lord, not God either. We got those titles courtesy Of KingJames and his merry band of miscreant translators, who stomped all over His name over 7000 times, installing LORD over it, thus forever hiding God's name from us. You thing ol' Jimmy mighta had an agenda? Or maybe it was his so called men of God. Or maybe they were all in it together. IDK. But it took me 25 years to figure it out. Yeah,maybe; maybe I am a slow-learner, but I'm a persistent sob. OOPs,lol.
 
Just don't go swearing in vain using 'Yahweh' or 'Elohim'...that would make even King James blush...if he knew Hebrew.
 
Too much coffee? As I de-stressed in my 40's I got quit swearing. I had someone close to me years ago that had a bad case of potty-mouth, listening to that cured me.

When I read this post, I thought I had wrote it. In Hebrew, our Abba's (Father) true name is spelled .....Yod Hey Vav Hey. Our Mashiach's (Messiah) true name is spelled.....Yod Hey Vav Shin Ayin. I firmly believe King James realized the power of His name and had it removed in his version.
Yod Heh Vav Hey did not turn against all Jewish people and we are grafted into His people. We all should use His true name.

Dibbons.....I think when we have the Holy Spirit within us, it gives us the sense of right vs. wrong, good vs. evil. We decide to listen or ignore. No other source can be telling you that your (and all of our's) foul language is evil other than.... Yod Hey Vav Hey. Read Scripture every day and He will build your strength against foul language. Not arguing here , but right and wrong is built into everyone , else why do the hardest criminalS run after doing something, ''THEY KNOW THEY DID WRONG" !
GUESS THAT DOESN`T APPLY TO MUSLIMS , SINCE THEY WONT CONDEMN THEIR OWN KIND , FOR BLOWING UP LITTLE GIRLS SCHOOLS AND KILLING PEOPLE IN THE NAME OF ALLAH-----------?????
 
That has been a bad habit of mine for years, never do it around the kids or my wife but was common place anywhere else.
The past year I've been trying to rededicate my self to Gods word. Been reading the Bible daily a bout 4 verses in 4 books a night ( it's a plan to read cover to cover in 365 days). Its not easy, I'm 50 and have been in construction and around others that have "the" language... but I have tried to slow down my instant thoughts/ reactions and replace it with something I've read...It works , it's not fool proof... it's just the dedication piece...slow your thoughts and it will change...

Yea well, Louis Black says "Bad words are what adults use to express anger and frustration so they don't pick up a tire iron and beat the **** out of someone"
 
My God does not worry about what name I use to refer to Him. He just rather I not curse him, when I need not curse anyone!!

Yes as I get older, I drop stuff, I trip over whatever. I can let some words fly but why!!?? Did it make me more agile? Or not look so incompetent?? I get mad at myself for just not having the agility I once had.

I ask every night for strength and patience. I need both!!
 
A couple things that I try to remember:

"Life and death are in the power of the tongue"

Try to take every thought (and word) captive. It is very hard and totally understand what you are trying to do. I try to speak life rather than death into situations, but sometimes my weak mortal flesh speaks out.
 
Frustration brings on lack of patience, that brings on bad words. I have worked hard all my life to have patience. Still working at it!!
