Got the car a 72 Duster back from the body shop. They painted the hood hinge and un-sprung the coil spring. I am getting old and can not get it back on the pin. Any thoughts as to how you get it back on the pin? I tried the other side off the car but with no luck.

It looks to me like you have to remove the clip, and rotate the bottom hinge piece to the spring. And you might have to remove the hood to do it...Just my thoughts...

Nice color by the way:thumbsup:

Can not rotate the piece that has the spring on it. There is a stop on it that is in the way. It will not go all the way around.

I recall seeing a post in the last year or two showing how to do it.

IIRC the hinge was put into a vice off of the car and the poster fastened some wire to the hook part and used some pipe to pull it into position and pry it over the post.

Take it back to the shop, you didn't pay for that!! They shouldn't have let it out of there like that!

Get a big pair of channel lock or vise grips and clamp on the end. Wind it around and hang the end on the post.

Probably a two person job. As RRR said vice grip on spring end to pull back to post by person 1. Then have 2nd one with pipe get under spring and lever it over post.

Was asking same question!!

I was able to use like RRR said with hinge on car, I put a vice grip on the bent part of the spring and rotated around to the pin, then I used a plastic hammer to drive the spring onto the pin. A lot easier that I thought.
