Well Pete Rose is still waiting. But guess who just got inducted.

As someone who lives in, grew up in and will likely die in Cincinnati, I think Homer deserves it more than Pete Rose.
I've met Pete Rose several times, arrogant asshole.

He deserves to be a little arrogant. He's the best to ever play the game. Period.

I lived in Cincinnati for 7 years (east side near Batavia) and regardless of who or what Pete was as a person, he was an amazing ball player and absolutely deserves to be in the Hall of Fame. It's just a giant pissing match that he isn't. Ok, he bet on Baseball, so what? He never threw a game or worked to change the outcome of a game so he could win a bet. It's complete BS that they are keeping him out.

It's stupid that he won't admit whatever it is that's keeping him out, yes he needs to admit guilt/fault and they'd let him in. It's stupid they won't let him in cause he won't admit said guilt/fault.

Which is precisely why I don't view athletes as a role model, some are great, the rest are dicks.

Agreed.. Ty Cobb, was considered likewise I would considered such, likewise.... It takes attitude, to make a player's personality success a possibility......

There's no debate he should be in the hall of fame.
But he made a deal with the baseball commissioner and did not hold up his end of the bargain.
And now he's not happy with the deal he created. Doesn't this sound like every ex-wife around?
A solution would be to have his funeral at the hall of fame.

Actually, he did admit guilt. It took a while, but he did.

Someone please explain a lifetime ban. Ted Williams argued unsuccessfully that Joe Jackson should be admitted, since his life is over, yet MLB said it's a lifetime ban, without defining who's lifetime.

A .396 career hitter deserves to be in just as much as Rose.

He played lights out in the 1918 ('19? I can't remember which at the moment) Series yet stands accused of being one of the players who threw the games. His supposed confession on paper was signed with an "x" since he was illiterate and couldn't read what he signed. A written "confession" on paper from an illiterate man doesn't match his play in the Series.

Near Batavia? I carried mail in Williamsburg and Batavia.
The 1st time I met Pete Rose, I was a kid (maybe 8 or 9) and he was doing this charity softball game with Gary Burbank (700 WLW) and several other Reds. I brought a baseball and was getting autographs and everyone was really nice about it. This was the "Big Red Machine" years. I approached Pete and he was just a absolute dick to me. I remember Ray Knight told me not to let him get me upset, Pete always a jerk. That just stuck with me. I can't say enough nice about Ray Knight and George Foster and the way they treated people that day.
I had to deal with him a few more times while working at dealerships. Always a rude asshole.
He might have been a great baseball player, but that doesn't give him the right to be a jerk.
Sometimes you reap what you sow, after he's gone, bring him into the hall. His accomplishments should be recognized, but the "man" isn't worthy.

I get it, Pete Rose is a jerk. Didn't know that being a nice guy was required for the HOF. Wonder how many others should be booted out for that. Growing up in the 60's, and being a baseball (Cardinal) fan, I did appreciate a lot of other teams players. Pete Rose was one of the most exciting ones to watch.

Baseball Hall of Fame is full of jerks...Ty Cobb was one of the most hated men of his time. The Hall is for Baseball skill.. not social skills.

Finally saw the ESPN "Backstory" episode on Pete and Joe Jackson (missed the Jackson part although they are intertwined).

He finally said what I wanted to hear him say since the whole thing started-

"I bet on the Reds...to win"

I've always maintained that throwing a game is just cause and betting on your own team to lose is a quite slippery slope down to that level.

Back in 89 I said it should be simple- if he bet on Cincinnati to lose- he's outta there, if he bet on them to win, give him a medal and let him in.

Of course, him being branded as a liar can certainly cast doubt on anything he now says.

That episode ended in a very valid point-

Pete may not have "reconfigured his life" as the ban agreement states is a requirement for reinstatement, but MLB has reconfigured the game to embrace and profit from what Pete is banned for doing.

Disclaimer- I grew up in Dayton OH, the next "big city" to the North of Cinci during the "Big Red Machine" era.

If OJ is in the footballs, then Pete should be in baseballs, he didn't kill anyone. Homer, why not Homer. :)

I watched that backstory also. Lots of information. MLB was ready to bring in shoeless joe right when the Pete Rose scandal broke. So that stopped that right there.
He is arrogant, he is a jerk, but what point will it prove to put him in after he is dead?
We all make mistakes, no one on this earth is perfect.
Can you imagine what it would mean to him if they let him in?
I try to live my life by doing the right thing, at the right time.
I think it's time to grow up and do the right thing.
BTY, I am not a Pete Rose fan.

I'm from Pittsburgh.
In the seventies....
I hated the Reds and Pete Rose
I hated the Phillies and Pete Rose.
In the nineties...
I hated the Braves.
Since then...
I hate Pirates management for trading all our prospects.

Anyways.....
Pete deserves to be in the HOF

I was on the bandwagon with the Big Red Machine. Jonny Bench was my man. Kim

I never met Pete (might be a good thing for my opinion of him) but I did briefly meet Bench, Dave Concepcion, Ken Griffey Sr, and Sparky Anderson.

Nice guys all of them.

Of course I was about 5 and don't really remember much.

I believe it was at a mall opening.

I wasn't really into baseball, either, but you couldn't ignore the 1970's Reds.

This is probably a good time to bring up the "Big Red Machine" Chargers.

I've personally seen two.

At least one was a 1972 model.

Both were, well....red.

Similar to the Bengal Chargers.

Instead of tail stripes they had a rectangular Big Red Machine badge on the fender in front of the door.
