Well that's kinda crazy. They certainly don't need to be sterile in this virus environment. Hospital here is paying for people to make them they need them so badly.
Yes as in one of the above videos, the people that receive the masks, machine wash them in batches and can use a little bleach with the wash cycle. Still better than nothing, If someone accidentally spits a gob at you while talking . . . for the folks working in close contact with people at their medical and retail jobs. Receptionists and All . . .
