Clutch pedal with over center spring removed

Ok question for you guys that removed the over center spring when using a diaphragm clutch vs. the original B&B. It's a 71 demon with the HD spring.

What keeps the pedal pivot shaft tight up against the plastic bushing when the spring is removed?

It looks as if the spring was actually used as a stop to keep the pedal in and up again the bushing? Now that the spring is gone it looks like it could slide out very easily. Does the tension of the rod keep it place? Did anyone have problem with this and if so what did you do to remedy this?

Thanks, Carl
