Drag Truck Part 2 "blackmark redemption"

-
I've started a dreadful task.... replacing the rear leafs. Those 40 year old bushings are not going to give away, as well as the bolts. The rear shackles I'll buy new, but the front mount, as we know, is riveted to the frame. Just not the type of work I enjoy, but needs to be done
All that brings back memories of changing the Springs from half ton to 3/4 ton Springs on my sons Power Wagon..
All 16 nuts on the u-bolts with a 4-foot cheater bar eighth of a turn at a time and they came off red hot... The next picture after that one in my phone is blood all over the ground in my fingers dripping...

Hopefully being the rears, it won't be as painful, but it's going to fight like a defense on the 1 yard line. I'll earn every inch... LOL.

My back's had is much fight is the front LOL.. when I look back a sawzall and some new u-bolts would have been a better alternative...

Well don't hold out on us. Post up the bloody pictures.

One rear shackle removed.... LOL 1 - Sawzall, 1 - 4" grinder, 1 - 2 lb hammer, 1 - chisel, 1 - 48" breaker bar, 1 - can of PB blaster, 1 - socket, and no blood...

It came from the factory with 1/2 bolts, but I ordered 5/8 eye leafs and shackles, all come with new bushings/bolts. Instead of 1650 rating per spring it's moved to 1700 per spring. Both my RC's have 5/8 so that's what I went with and besides, it was actually a lot cheaper to go beefier. This would be the grand time to install a different rear end, means the U-bolts will be loosened.

We may need a new budget update as well LOL...

no it's the one that I thought of when you posted that I just now had time to get to it..
you just now had time to go get it??? LOL...
P.S. - My song with the Dodge in the video

I'm thinking with the new leafs I put in the 8.75 rear end...

When you put the big block in were you planning on a stall converter? And you know what I mean by that don't be a smarty...

yes. In fact, the 360 will get a upgraded converter (unknown), one I've had for a while but never used.

One leaf off.... and the new were sent out yesterday. Supposed to rain anyways for the next 3 days….
