Custom duster hood.

Reminds me of the late model challenger hoods

If you were to black out the scoop and run a pinstripe around it when you paint the car, it will look killer

I just noticed this thread. Cool work! I like how it follows the raised area on the middle of the hood.
I have had 66-7 B bodies I added the low profile hemi scoop and also the max wedge style scoop years ago., made in fiberglass by SledCity ( the best IMO) But last month I got the urge to try to fab one, no brake, just some angle iron, a hammer and dolly, and the front of the car trailer! The original scoop were made of metal, the max wedge I believe out of aluminum, I guess the 66-7 scoop also maybe. I copied the actual dimensions of those, and bought a sheet of 20 ga. mild plate $35 (and 1 1/2 hrs drive .ha). I will have to get the wife to unload the pics!
I like how the MW scoop turned out. The low profile scoop, I welded in 2 pieces of little 1/2 angle underneath, for bracing, which I bet some 1/4 wire would have worked. I have some hammer marks, that I could just smooth out with some filler, but what the heck. 99% of the people I know buy great fiberglass scoops from SledCity and I have also years past.
I kinda like the fact that my scoops are hand formed out of steel. The hammer prints show that!! I would have duplicated the original on top (low profile scoop) if I had a brake and bead roller, I would have made some reinforming ridgeson top of the low profile scoop, but.
I did consider buying a sheet of ,040 aluminum after I practiced on the steel ones, but.. I might yet. It takes a sheet to make the two scoops in OEM size.
The scoop is just sitting on the hood, not bolted down yet. I did cut off most of the bottom lips and just have 8 or so pieces bout 1 inch square for the studs.
Not really satisfied with the front lips, I just bent over about 1/2 in for a lips, but to just it some curve, I made a couple of slices.
After I took these pics, I went back and made a slight reinforcing ridge down the low profile scoop, that helped it.
I OEM aluminum MW scoops go for like $1500 if you can even find one for sale.

I like it! I love how you incorporated the original hood line in the scoop nice touch!!

I went back and rolled the front edge of the 66-7 scoop in some and helped. I did not like how the bracing for that one worked out.

A skim coat of filler on the MW scoop would smooth it out and get rid of the hammer marks!

A metal brake would ake it so much easier I figured the first ones would be a learning process. I will probably get a sheet of aluminum one day when I have nothing else to do!!

research a few DIY benchtop brakes. They're much easier to make then you may think.

I made a half *** one. I don't have a bench right now. LOl

Is is two sticks of oil pipe in the ground and a length of iron welded on The I use c clamps and vice grips, and another piece of angle!!! Crude.

The MW scoop, on the 62 hood I will se some seam sealer along the bottom, IT will be white like hood..

For those that follow I haven’t forgot about the hood. Thing me got kinda wild with work and then the corona hit and it got even worse.

Hood is almost ready for 2k then paint. I’ve been dealing with some electrical gremlins after adding timing control to the sniper set up and it has taken all my free time really. I think i have nailed down. Took the car last weekend and yup it’s still pretty quick.

Welp. Got it primed, sanded smooth, and painted. All today. Lots of work. Final paint definitely shows the mediocrity of my work be eh it ain’t a show car. Had a few gnats fly in the paint but other than it went good.
