Gents,
We are currently pulling the engine for a swap, so We decided to upgrade to PWR steering. we pulled a steering box from a 71 Dart. The steering unit is larger than the Manual unit. From the center of gear to Roll pin, its about 3" larger.
My question is, Does the steering column Collapse at all to accommodate the larger unit? Or do you have to have a different steering Shaft / or column for the Power unit ??

thanks
Earl

Some here would consider going to PS a downgrade.

The columns are different, so is the coupler.

Manual steering does not leak either...... ;-)

Thanks,
But my Buddy wants PWR steering, He's got wide tires and a little steering wheel which isn't doing him any favors, so if I pull the column and Coupler from Dart.....I'll be OK with everything else??

So, would you be interested in a trade.

I have the column shaft in correct length for PS, the coupler(they are different between manual and power) . I have the gear box, power steering pump, (with all brackets) and lines. Everything in working condition and came from a V8 72 Demon. The Pittman arm too, they are different between manual and power, I have the correct one to go with it all.

I'll trade you the whole show for your steering column shaft, coupler and gear box.

Well, He already has the Power steering Pump, Box and lines/bracket etc etc.... But I'll ask him and see what he says. Thanks

Get the electric assist column off a Nissan Versa and fab that in. Power, ground and ignition on and that's IT. Course, there's some fab work involved.

I've pounded power steering shaft down to meet manual steering, but I've never beat a manual steering shaft up to fit power steering... interesting thought
